Raven, and Other Poems

The last volume of the Raven Edition: The Raven, The Bells, Ulalume, Annabel Lee, Eldorado and the rest of the poems from youth to the last years, together with the tales that had not found a place earlier — Hop-Frog''s revenge on the king, the man of the crowd who cannot bear to be alone, a mummy revived to argue with its visitors — and the lecture The Poetic Principle, in which Poe argues that a long poem is a contradiction in terms. He was paid a few dollars for the poem that made him famous. Twenty-six plates of northern interiors, lamplit streets and night seas by Hammershøi, Grimshaw and others carry the poems'' solitude and dread across two centuries of painting.
