Faust-Legend and Goethe's 'Faust'

Where the Faust legend came from and what Goethe made of it - the historical magician, the chapbooks, Marlowe's play and the two parts of the poem. Cotterill had edited Goethe's Iphigenie for English readers and writes as a teacher who knows the text line by line. This edition is bound with 60 plates of paintings from 1530 to 1905, among them works by Rembrandt, Gustave Dore, Odilon Redon and Caspar David Friedrich.
