Blot on the Scutcheon

A great house, an old dishonour nobody will name, and a young man who inherits the consequences along with the title. Mabel Winifred Knowles published as May Wynne and turned out some two hundred books in forty years - historical romance, adventure, school stories - writing to a standard that never dropped as far as her production rate suggests it should have. Fifty-seven plates after Raeburn and Dawe carry the tale's old dishonour through two centuries of family faces, from 1671 to 1888.
