House of a Thousand Candles

A young man must live a year in his dead grandfather''s unfinished Indiana house to inherit it, and the house has secret passages, a caretaker who lies and somebody moving about at night. It was one of the best-selling novels in America in 1906 and has been filmed three times. This edition includes a gallery of 50 plates bound with the text, with paintings by Goya, Tissot, Ralli and Delaroche, alongside six restored and coloured illustrations.
