English grammar taught through jokes and Leech''s cartoons - the parts of speech illustrated by the people who misuse them. Leigh wrote for Punch and produced this in 1840 for readers who had been beaten through Lindley Murray at school. This edition adds six bound plates, among them works by John Leech, George Cruikshank and John Everett Millais, alongside thirty-nine in-text illustrations restored and coloured for this volume.
