National Human Rights Commission

In a democratic polity, protection and promotion of Human Rights is of utmost importance. Though Human Rights are universally acknowledged rights and with the internationalisation of these rights, several international mechanisms are available for their implementation. However, the ultimate responsibility for the effective implementation of these rights lies with the state. Therefore, the National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) play a significant role in the protection & promotion of Human Rights at the ground level. India''s National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) is one such institution. This book deals with an insightful study of the working of the National Human Rights Commission particularly during the period of its initiation and assesses its role in the protection and promotion of Human Rights in India.
