THE BRIDGE: Surviving the Shadows of GenocideWhat if the last thing you carried out of a burning city was not a possession—but a story?Rwanda, 1994. As fear spreads through Kigali and neighbours begin turning against neighbours, young Eva Uwimana finds herself caught between a world she once knew and a violence she cannot yet comprehend. Her father, Pascal, knows that lives can be erased—but so can memories. In secret, he records the voices and stories of people whose existence may soon be denied. Among those recordings is Eva's own voice: the voice of a daughter, a weaver, and a young woman still dreaming of an ordinary future. Then the violence comes.Forced to flee Kigali with Jerry Mushi, the man she loves, Eva begins a desperate journey east toward the Rusumo border. Their road becomes a terrifying struggle through checkpoints, hunger, fear, betrayal, and impossible choices. With every mile, they must decide what—and whom—they can still save. But the story does not end at the border.Years later, archivist Dr. Amina Niyonzima discovers a forgotten collection of cassette recordings, photographs, woven baskets, and a mysterious gap in the historical record. One recording is labelled simply: "e;THE BRIDGE, 1994."e;What she uncovers forces Jerry to confront the question that has haunted him for decades: What really happened to Eva—and what was left behind when she disappeared? The Bridge is a powerful historical fiction about love in the shadow of violence, the courage of ordinary people, the survival of memory, and the price of refusing to let the truth disappear.Because sometimes survival is not the end of the journey.Sometimes, survival means carrying the story across the bridge.
