The House of Charvenne (French: La Maison Charvenne) is a work of narrative history by the French author Bertrand Lécuyer, first published in France in 1978 by Éditions du Beffroi in Paris. Set in the Cambrésis region of northern France between 1768 and 1802, it is an account of the Cambreth family, a Corsican-descended clandestine network that operated behind the linen and lace firm known publicly as Charvenne, from which the modern luxury house of the same name descends.The book is not a pure novel nor a conventional history but a hybrid of the two: it is founded on documentary research into a family that genuinely existed, and follows real events and a real chronology, while reconstructing in fictional form the conversations, interior lives, and undocumented particulars that the surviving record does not preserve.
