Whisker Hostel: Before the Mayhem

Before the jokes, before the pharmaceutical disasters and the household coups, there was a man alone in rural Oklahoma. Mark Krueger woke up one morning to find his parents gone, his marriage over, and no family anywhere nearby. What he did have was a house full of cats who did not care in the slightest that his life had fallen apart. Breakfast was at seven. At seven, a committee arrived to ask why management had failed. This is the true story behind The Whisker Hostel. It starts with Eliza, adopted in Arkansas, who fell asleep in the bend of his elbow on her first night while he barely moved until morning. Then came Little Mama and her kids, the cats outside, and the slow discovery that these animals already had personalities worth writing down. Honest, funny, and warm, Before the Mayhem is how the house became what it is, and how the cats became the family that stayed.
