Whisker Hostel: The Great Coon Con

After Full Metal Whiskers, the raccoon Family has a new plan. If they can't drive the cats out, they'll lock them up. So they build a prison camp under the old shed: a guard tower made from a coffee can, a fence of twist ties, and a hand-lettered sign. One night they capture a squad of cats. The Commandant, Vinnie, is proud of his perfect record. Nobody has ever escaped his camp. That's because the cats don't want to escape. The camp sits right on top of the Family's operations, and it's the best listening post on the property. Spooky runs things from the inside. Henry forges the paperwork. Chong works the radio from a hollow stump in the woods. The guard, Lug, sees nothing, hears nothing, and would like to keep it that way, as long as the jerky keeps coming. And every night the prisoners slip home through the tunnels for dinner, back in time for roll call. Funny, clever, and warm to the last page, The Great Coon Con is a story about who's really in charge, and the cats who never once let the raccoons find out.
