Adjacent

Every morning, for two seconds, he is fine. Then she arrives in his mind.He knows he loves her. His body insists otherwise: chest, stomach, dread. So he does what he has always done. He observes. Counts. Records. Turns feeling into something measurable. But as he slowly comes off the medication that has kept him functioning for eleven years, the distance between knowing and feeling begins to collapse. On Ward 6, surrounded by people facing death, separation and lives being quietly reclassified by an amber light on a phone, he starts to understand that being fine is not the same as being here. And that perhaps he was never empty.Perhaps he simply couldn't feel the floor.Adjacent is a strange, intimate novella about love arriving in the wrong place, the body as an unreliable translator, and the almost invisible distance between standing beside your life and finally stepping inside it.
