Still Here

Nine years after the world stopped working, Chris comes down off his mountain to find out whether anyone is left. There is no plague and no invasion. The lorries simply stopped coming, the food ran out faster than anyone could explain it, and a man in a library ruled a line under the bottom of a page for nobody to read. What's left is a country of empty towns, open ground, and the few people who worked out how to live in it.The Quiet Country follows one young man from a cabin in the hills to a dead city and out the other side — gathering a handful of survivors, an unlikely animal, and a growing understanding that nobody was ever coming to save them, and that whatever comes next will have to be built by hand.A grounded, closely observed story about scarcity, trust, and what people become when the rescue never arrives.
