Sharon "Shay" Jordan was an ambitious, highly successful member of the United States Navy, working her way from recruit to Chief Warrant Officer, and serving on ships that sailed all over the world. She was just a Black girl from a blue-collar section of Louisville, Kentucky, an average student at best, a kid who even had an arrest record. And she struggled.
