Memory of Maps

The poems of The Memory of Maps move through a mother’s Ukrainian roots and a father’s roots in the sea to explore a family history of lives lived together and apart. The book begins with experiments in Ukrainian language and culture, and transitions to life in a small house in the Midwest where Ukrainian is no longer spoken. The author uses her lens as a translator to embark on an exploration of language in which places and objects communicate emotion.
