Dieser erste Band einer großen, auf insgesamt vier Bände angelegten Gesamtdarstellung der Geschichte der evangelischen Kirche in der Markgrafschaft, dann im Großherzogtum und im republikanischen Baden wie dem heutigen Teilstaat Baden-Württembergs widmet sich der Vorgeschichte der erst 1556 erfolgten und somit späten badischen Reformation. Der Vielzahl der später im Großherzogtum Baden aufgegangenen Kleinterritorien entspricht dabei die Schilderung vieler reformatorischer Persönlichkeiten und deren Wirken als Folge der Heidelberger Disputation Luthers (1518). Abbildungen, theologische Erläuterungen und die Präsentation von kurzen Quellentexten dienen der Allgemeinverständlichkeit dieses seit Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts nicht mehr unternommenen Versuchs einer evangelischen Kirchengeschichte.[History of the Protestant Church in Baden. Volume 1: Reformation Movements in the Southwest of the Empire (1518–1557) – From Luther''s Heidelberg Disputation to the Peace of Augsburg]This first volume of an extensive overall view of the history of the Protestant Church in the Margraviate, then the Grand Duchy and later the Republic of Baden and also in the present federate state Baden-Württemberg deals with the previous history of the Reformation in Baden that took place only at a late stage in 1556. The presentation of many personalities of the Reformation and their work in the wake of Luther''s Heidelberg Disputation (1518) corresponds here to the multitude of small territories that later merged with the Great Duchy of Baden. Illustrations, theological comments and the presentation of short source texts contribute to a general comprehensibility of this first attempt to write a Protestant church history since the middle of the 19th century.

Der zweite Band der geplant vierbändigen Darstellung badischer Landeskirchengeschichte umfasst den Zeitraum von ca. 1530-1813. Geschildert werden Geschichte und Theologie, Kirchenregiment und Frömmigkeit des Protestantismus in der Markgrafschaft Baden(-Durlach). Somit reicht der Band von der Vorgeschichte und Geschichte der Reformation in Baden bis zur Vorgeschichte der badischen Union. Im Mittelpunkt der Darstellung steht die Entwicklung der lutherischen Kirche Alt-Badens zwischen Orthodoxie und Aufklärung im Zeitalter Markgraf Karl Friedrichs. Dargestellt wird die Integration der rechtsrheinischen Kurpfalz seit 1803. Auch wird die Geschichte reformierter Flüchtlinge und der Juden behandelt. Der dritte Band wird die Geschichte der Evangelischen Kirche im Großherzogtum Baden zwischen 1815 und 1918 bieten.[History of the Protestant Church in Baden, Volume 2: The Church of the Margraviate]This volume covers the period from about 1530-1813 in the history of the regional church in Baden. The history and theology, church government and piety of Protestantism in the margraviate of Baden(-Durlach) are described. Thus, the volume ranges from the prehistory and history of the Reformation in Baden to the prehistory of the Baden Union. The focus of the presentation is the development of the Lutheran Church of Old Baden between Orthodoxy and Enlightenment in the age of Margrave Karl Friedrich. The integration of the Electoral Palatinate on the right bank of the Rhine since 1803 is dealt with, as well as the history of Reformed refugees and the Jews. A total of four volumes are planned; the third volume will offer the history of the Protestant Church in the Grand Duchy of Baden between 1815 and 1918.

Der dritte Band der geplanten vierbändigen Darstellung der Geschichte der Evangelischen Kirche in Baden befasst sich mit dem auch aus kirchenhistorischer Perspektive »langen« 19. Jahrhundert. Behandelt werden die Geschichte der Landeskirche von der badischen Union 1821 bis zum Ende des landesherrlichen Kirchenregiments 1918, die Anfänge der Erweckung und der Inneren Mission in Baden, die Revolutions- und Restaurationszeit (1848–1860) sowie die kirchenpolitischen Frontstellungen vor und während der badischen »Neuen Ära« der zweiten Hälfte des 19. Jahrhunderts. Besonderes Augenmerk gilt dem politischen und kirchenpolitischen Wirken Großherzog Friedrichs I. und dem Wirken des Kulturprotestantismus in Theologie und Kirche. Schließlich werden auch »moderne« Strömungen identifiziert, die so unterschiedliche Bereiche wie den Neokonfessionalismus, die kirchliche Baukunst und die soziale Frage in der Zeit der Wende zum 20. Jahrhundert betreffen.Der vierte Band wird sich der Geschichte der Evangelischen Kirche »im Wechsel der Staatsordnungen« (1919–1973) widmen.[History of the Protestant Church in Baden]The third volume of the planned four-volume presentation of the history of the Protestant Church in Baden deals with the »long« 19th century, also from the perspective of church history. It looks upon the history of the regional church from the Union of Baden in 1821 to the end of the sovereign church regime in 1918, the beginnings of the revival and the Inner Mission in Baden, the revolutionary and restoration period (1848–1860) as well as the church-political frontlines before and during the Baden »New Era« of the second half of the 19th century. Particular attention is paid to the political and ecclesiastical activities of Grand Duke Frederick I and the impact of cultural Protestantism in theology and the church. Finally, »modern« currents are also identified, covering areas as diverse as neo-confessionalism, ecclesiastical architecture, and the social question at the turn of the 20th century.The fourth volume will be devoted to the history of the Protestant Church »in the change of state orders« (1919–1973).
