Physics and physiology of lighting unified for human well-being Designing interior lighting that serves human perception requires validated physiological and psychological models alongside rigorous optical science. Cognitive and Visual Aspects in Human Centric Interior Lighting synthesizes research from journals, patents, and standards into a unified treatment. Written by a team of lighting technology specialists from Wuhan University, TU Darmstadt, and Zeiss, the book connects color science fundamentals with real-life lighting solutions. The book opens with colorimetry fundamentals and color appearance models, then examines the psychophysics of color perception in detail. Dedicated chapters address seven distinct color attributes: fidelity, preference, discrimination, naturalness, comfort, vividness, and brightness. Later sections cover human centric lighting applications in work environments, museums, and contexts related to emotional well-being, grounding each scenario in empirical research. Readers will also find: Validated perception models linking physiological and psychological responses to specific lighting conditions in interior environmentsSystematic treatment of seven color attributes and their measurable effects on human comfort, productivity, and visual experienceReal-life lighting solutions demonstrating the interplay between color properties and human perception across application settingsConsolidated research from scientific journals, patents, and international standards presented as a coherent state-of-the-art referenceCoverage of LED-based lighting design including mathematical modeling of high-power LEDs and their color quality characteristicsCognitive and Visual Aspects in Human Centric Interior Lighting serves lighting engineers, lamp and luminaire manufacturers, optical industry professionals, and physicists working in applied lighting. By unifying colorimetry, psychophysics, and application-specific design guidance, it provides the technical foundation needed to develop lighting solutions centered on human perception and well-being.
