This book about Cesare Colombo (Milan, 1935-2016) is an essential reference for 20th century Italian photography. Animated by a strong civil sense, Colombo was also an historian, critic, curator of important exhibitions since the post-war period, and promoted debates which have contributed to a significant growth of photographic culture in Italy. Alongside his advertising and industrial activities, he collaborated with the Agfa Advertising Service, the 3M Foundation, the Archive of the Italian Touring Club, theAlinari Archives, together with a constant presence in prestigious photography magazines. This volume brings together 250 images thattestify to the variety of interests and themes of his research: a nucleus is dedicated to his city, Milan, narrated in 60 years of urban, cultural and social transformations; included here are also photographs of political subjects, those dedicated to work, trade and finally art and culture.Text in English and Italian.

During the 1950s, Aldo Ballo and Marirosa Toscani established the most prestigious Italian photographic studio specialising in design, in collaboration with architects, designers, artists, and major companies and magazines in the fields of architecture, furniture, and interior design. In this book, the most memorable images of the items, veritable “icons” of still life, are accompanied by many original and previously unpublished pieces, critically presented here for the first time. The scientific investigation of the Archivio Ballo+Ballo, made possible by its donation to the Civico Archivio Fotografico of Milan in 2022, has highlighted the extraordinary artistic and intellectual journey of these two great masters. Their images have brilliantly captured the cultural dynamics and innovations of the ever-evolving Italian design, confirming its status as an international leader.Includes texts by: Silvia Paoli, Alberto Saibene, Paola Proverbio, Laura Marcolini (Studio Azzurro)Text in English and Italian.
