Deborah Koff-Chapin, the creator of SoulCards, shares the simple but profound drawing process through which she developed her soul-stirring imagery. This beautiful little book gives all the information needed to begin explorations with Touch Drawing. Numerous drawings by Deborah and her students illustrate both the primal power and childlike playfulness that can be experienced through Touch Drawing. In Touch Drawing, the fingers take the place of pen or paintbrush. Through this direct drawing process, even the least confident of artists finds interior images coming alive on the page. The images are formed through the pressure of fingers on paper that has been placed over an inked board. The hands become organic extensions of the soul, moving freely in response to the sensations of the moment. Many drawings can be created in one session, each a stepping-stone to the next, guiding one deeper and deeper into the self. In a medium as immediate and transparent as Touch Drawing, previously unused channels of expression are opened, enabling uncensored feelings to flow forth. The act of creating with these feelings provides more than cathartic release: it unleashes vibrant healing forces that guide the psyche toward wholeness. Touch Drawing is a practice of creative, psychological and spiritual integration.

In a 1995 review, The Bookreader said that SoulCards were “due to become an American deck of reference." They were right! SoulCards broke new ground in the realm of divination decks and have yet to meet their match. SoulCards have found their way into people's lives all over the world. SoulCards are easy to use, yet tap great depths. They encourage people to turn their awareness toward their own inner wisdom. When a card is chosen in association with a question, the image often evokes immediate insight. The strength of response confirms the universality of images that are drawn from depth levels of the psyche. The guidebook does not offer written meanings. Rather, it supports people to use their creative resources to delve further into the personal meaning of selected images through journal writing, storytelling, visualisation, movement, dream incubation and other expressive modalities. When used in relationships and groups, SoulCards catalyse refreshing responses and authentic communication. The many ways the cards are used reflect the simplicity and openness of the system. They are used by a broad range of professionals including therapists, creative writing teachers, health care workers, managers, youth counselors, workshop leaders, corporate consultants, life coaches, support groups, intuitives, and people of all ages interested in their own soul development. Children are fascinated with the images, and often verbalize with unexpected wisdom and maturity. The uses of SoulCards are endless! Through her years of Touch Drawing, Deborah tapped into a universal level of the human soul. Out of thousands of drawings, she selected 60 to share with the world in the best selling, independently published SoulCards. Five years later, she harvested 60 more images to create SoulCards 2. Each deck is complete unto itself. When used together they offer an even richer range of imagery. Their unique packaging includes a portfolio box to carry the deck, nested within a book-sized outer box that can be re-used as a frame to display a selected card. All the images in the deck are shown in miniature on the back of the packaging. The companion guidebook offers creative ways to gain personal insight from the images. Since their release in 1995, SoulCards have found their way into people's lives all over the world. Over 75,000 decks have been sold, mainly through small, independently owned bookshops and word-of-mouth. The strength of response confirms the universality of images that are drawn from depth levels of the psyche. The many ways the cards are used reflect the simplicity and openness of the system. 60 full col cards
