Sanguinetti takes on the archetype of the hero from every angle— at times many simultaneously— and in a language itself heroic in its leaps and shifts and its inventive riffs that tap into ambient legend, with its steaming horses, epic journeys, and, of course, battle. Volatile style, startling content, supercharged tone— Cefola captures them all in her splendidly nuanced translation, a rare case in which nothing at all is lost, and the English language gains a powerful and beautiful book. Cole Swenson

These are children’ s stories for adults, you could say… and they have the sort of quirkiness, humour and wisdom that might be expected from such an enterprise. Read… and enjoy.

DuPlessis’ s Selected Poems is a generous collection including early work “ rewriting the lyric” through serial poems to a comprehensive selection from her long poem Drafts. The book includes work from Traces, with Days up to 01/01/2020, including a selection of one of her collage poems.

“ Despite what the first pages may suggest, this is most definitely  not  a children’ s tale.” Or so we’ re told. It’ s more like what Byron thought about “ true poetry” :   that “ ’ tis the part/ Of a true poet to escape from fiction” . David Miller escapes from fiction in “ spirit dreams” he learned from a certain Koala named Norman, who seems to have passed them along through a certain wombat named Archie. If I told you any more about David’ s escapes you’ d think I was making it up, or maybe that I just dreamed it all. But as David once said – I think he was at Felpham – “ you can never tell about these things.”       Jerome McGann

Time Being, as in  for the time being, written in, around, from a perspective (visual and otherwise) of  home, a place of some incidents, knowing a home is connected to a world of homes and gardens and other (all other) places. These are poems begun in a time of pandemic, though that time, as all times, continues. So,  for the time being . . .

Portions, spirit, elegy, lyrics, awakenings, sutra, serendipity, loss, mindedness, rebelling, reveling, unraveling, sounderings, melody, offkey, noisily, rhythm, negation, improvisation, abandon, deflection, renewal, cascade, cadence, grace, weaving, enigma,  shekinah: a door, a jar. These are a few of his favorite things. — Charles BernsteinHank Lazer’ s Abundant Life: New and Selected Poems shows how Lazer thinks with and through writing. All of it is literally experimental in that each new project is a challenge he gives himself, a way to experience life differently. Here we have his “ shape writing” but also short, jagged lyrics reminiscent of Creeley, and long narrative poems about losing one’ s parents. What unites this work is Lazer’ s joint commitment to mindfulness (a quest to find the sacred within the everyday) and to relationality, to dialogue. His books arise and exist in conversation with others: philosophers— such as Levinas and Merleau-Ponty— as well as Zen monks, and admired poets including Emily Dickinson and Creeley. This work may be heady, but it is also deeply human. — Rae Armantrout

Daphne Marlatt’ s work has been described as including “ such acuity of hush and cadence,” creating “ sound that is space inhabiting her body, becoming ours” (Erí n Moure). Sina Queyras has described her as “ a singular voice in Canadian poetry,” which is undoubtably true, yet we think she is a singular voice in all poetry of the 20th and 21st Centuries.
