Hu Shi on Philosophy and Life is a compilation of selected essays by Hu Shi that cover two major topics: philosophy and life. These articles, carefully curated from Hu Shi's most representative works and cross-checked with multiple editions, aim to present the text closest to the original intent of the master himself.The book delves into both philosophy and life, spanning from ancient to modern times, from the past to the future. It covers topics such as ancient Chinese philosophy, contemporary philosophy, and concepts of life. Having been influenced by new ideas, Hu Shi's perspectives differed significantly from those of many others during his time, and some of his views on life still resonate profoundly with readers today.Philosophy and life are intricately intertwined, as philosophy is inevitably present in life. According to Hu Shi, life has no inherent meaning; it derives meaning from what you give it. Rather than spending one's days pondering the meaning of life, it is better to use this life to do something meaningful.Therefore, in this book, readers can see Hu Shi's analysis of philosophy and life, as well as his encouragement to create. He argues, "e;Life itself is merely a biological fact. What meaning can it possibly have? What's the difference between being born a human, a cat, or a dog? The meaning of life does not lie in how one comes into existence, but in how one lives. If you are willing to squander your six-foot body on daydreaming, that is the meaning of your life. But if you strive to rise up, determined to seek the meaning of life and create your own meaning, then every day you live will have its own meaning, and every task you accomplish will add to the meaning of your life. Life is infinite, and so is the meaning of life."e;

Grzegorz W. Kolodko proposed Chinism firstlyiA which is a unique combination of the power of the state, with the visible hand, and the market, with the invisible hand. The synergy of these two super-regulators of the economy, society and polity, combined with meritocracy, when rational people make rational decisions in a rational way, made a historical leap of civilization possible.The author begins this book with a concise overview of the essence of New Pragmatism, and then, from the perspectives of its determinants and the consequences and implications for other countries and for the world economy to assess China's development process.He regards that Chinism is a syncretic economic system based on multiple forms of ownership of means of production, coming hand in hand with centralised power essentially based on meritocracy. The policy implemented by the state is competent and responsible. At the same time, it is oriented to fulfilling long-term strategic goals, to which medium-term and immediate goals are subordinated.Therefore, the author shares his prediction on the world economy: World's future will increasingly depend on China's future.Writing about the future, the author naturally refers to the development challenges that China will face in the decade of 2020s and beyondisChina has already achieved a lot in its sustainable development, but there is still much to be done, especially in terms of reducing income inequalities and enhancing social cohesion, as well as environmental protection and creating a green economy.
