For the first time, one of the major names in Italian car design tells his story from the beginning; from when he made his first sketches on paper, unbeknown to his parents and not only of cars, to reaching a point at which his name became synonymous with some of the best known and most important cars on the international front. In his 23-year career at Pininfarina, Leonardo Fioravanti, who was first a designer and architect, then managing director and director general of 'Studi & Ricerche' department, created some of the most beautiful Ferraris of all time; they ranged from the 1965 250 LM sports coupe Speciale to the immortal 1968 Daytona through to the 1975 308 GTB and GTS and the 1984 288 GTO, as well as the P5 and P6 of 1968. While continuing his Ferrari essay during his Pininfarina career, Fioravanti also guided the creation of numerous other projects, among them the Dino road car, the 1980 Pinin four-door prototype and went on to the 1984 Testarossa and the 1987 F40.He worked for the Fiat Group from 1988 until 1991, during which time he took on the roles of deputy director general of Ferrari, later became responsible for advanced design CRF and then head of the Fiat Styling Centre. In 1987, he founded Fioravanti srl, an architectural studio, and in 1991 he extended his services to industry, in particular the design of means of transport. Images of an epoch, designs from his own personal archive never previously seen and, above all, a passionate first person account. Those are the key elements of this outstanding book which, through the creations of Leonardo Fioravanti, covers over 50 years of the history of automobile style and culture.

The last edition of an automotive literary classic: the technical analysis of Formula 1 penned by Giorgio Piola. After 25 years of publication, the historic draughtsman is bring the curtain down on this experience with a volume that examines the last three seasons, from 2016 to 2018, as always reviewing the principal technical innovations in the spheres of chassis and engine design. This three-year analysis is appropriately completed with a retrospective of some of Piola's most important drawings from a 50-year career that began back in 1969.

This book analyses the technology of spark ignition two-stroke engines. The presentation is simple and comprehensive. The description of the operating cycle, the fluid dynamics, the lubrication and the cooling systems is followed by painstaking analysis of the mechanical organs, with the materials and the manufacturing processes employed to produce them. The book is completed by an overview of the history and evolution of these engines and by an examination of the principal types and the diverse fields in which they are employed. A section of the work is dedicated to an in-depth analysis of the ignition and combustion phases and the formation of the air-fuel mixture, with particular attention paid to the most recent injection systems.

The series of monographic books devoted to the Lambretta has been expanded with a new title focusing on the Special and SX models, the new generation of the popular Italian scooter presented in 1963.The book covers the entire history and evolution of the S-SX models and, in particular, several of the prototypes that never went into production, including the two truly innovative and well-known Lambretta twin-cylinder models.Particular attention is also paid to the 200 SX which, with its above-average performance, became the undisputed queen of the European scooter scene: fast, powerful and elegant, it was particularly popular in Great Britain. For this reason, the book includes an in-depth look at the Anglo-Saxon scooter world and the success of the SX series in that country. There are also specific chapters on the communication strategy implemented by the Innocenti company to promote the new product, as well as a series of curiosities such as the hovercraft assembled with two Lambretta 200 SX engines.

While 1984 was not an easy year for Ferrari in Formula 1, the same cannot be said for the production cars, with the dramatic return of two of the most iconic and evocative names in the history of the Prancing Horse: Testarossa – already featured in a monograph in this series – and GTO, the new Ferrari grand tourer, the latest in the long and glorious line of eight-cylinder cars which was launched at that year’s Geneva motor show. The 288 GTO was derived directly from the 308 GTB Speciale prototype prepared by Pininfarina in 1977, in effect a “pumped up” 308 with even more aggressive bodywork and powered by a muscular 2.8-litre V8 capable of delivering around 400 hp, good for a top speed of a little over 300 kph.Following the F40 and the Testarossa books in this series, this monograph on 288 GTO retraces the technical and stylistic genesis of the supercar, with contributions from several of the artificers of the model. All this accompanied by invaluable materials, many of which previously unpublished, drawn from the archives of the magazine Quattroruote.

A must, an "exaggerated" Ferrari, a remarkably impressive car still today, more than 30 years on from its launch. The Ferrari F40 caused a sensation when it first saw the light of day in 1987 thanks to its uncompromising lines and a formidable mechanical specification, most of which left in plain sight and promising unrivalled performance. The car emanated immense appeal from every side. The last of the Prancing Horse's GT cars "approved" by Enzo Ferrari is the protagonist of this book by Gaetano Derosa, a book that starts from a long way out, analysing the "forebears" of the F40: from the 250 LM of 1963 to the 308 "Millechiodi" of 1978, to the 288 GTO of 1984 and the GTO Evoluzione of 1986. The technical and stylistic evolution of the F40 is also recounted by the figures responsible for this thoroughbred Ferrari: from Leonardo Fioravanti, in his dual role as designer and at the time vice-chairman of the Maranello firm to Nicola Materazzi who defined the monstrous eight-cylinder engine that powered the car and through to Piero Ferrari himself one of the great supporters of the F40 Le Mans project. It is no coincidence that the book concludes with an exhaustive chapter dedicated to the F40 in racing, from the GT and single-marque championships to the return to the Le Mans 24 Hours.

While cars such as the 288 GTO, the Testarossa, and the F40 – all already covered in the Supercars series – were the Maranello-based manufacturer’s “iconic” models of the 1980s, the F50, Enzo, and LaFerrari took up the baton in the decades that followed. These three cars are the focus of this book, which traces the technical, stylistic, and industrial history of each one, accompanied by a particularly rich collection of images, including historical photographs and others taken specifically for the volume. Where possible, the narrative is complemented by the testimonies of some of the creators – mechanics, engineers, and test drivers – of these extraordinary cars.

The industrial and technical history of the Lambretta D/LD series, the classic Lambretta par excellence, the model that has represented the purest essence of the scooter "made in Italy", as told through invaluable archive materials.Previously unpublished photos and official documents discovered in the Innocenti archives along with accurate texts by Vittorio Tessera, the leading expert on the historic scooter in Italy and the world. With this model, Innocenti proved capable of conquering the national and international markets; exported throughout the world, the D/LD was a great success, loved and appreciated by thousands of users. Chapters dedicated to advertising, to the famous people who fell in live with it and to the marketing of the D and DL series around the world complete this latest title in the series that also includes the volumes Lambretta LUI, Lambretta TV/LI Series I and Lambretta TV/LI Scooterstyle Series III.

The American Fred Merkel riding a Honda won the first two editions in 1988 and 1989. This was followed by a Ducati triple with titles for Raymond Roche in 1990 and Doug Polen in 1991 and '92. In the years that followed the likes of Carl Fogarty, Troy Corser, Colin Edwards and Troy Bayliss came to the fore aboard equally well-known bikes also raced in the same period by Pier Francesco Chili, perhaps the best-known Italian Superbike rider prior to the advent of Biaggi and Melandri. These 25 years are revisited for the first time in an official book that, season by season, reviews the technical, sporting and human stories of each championship through the ever-accurate texts of Claudio Porrozzi and above all the spectacular images of his brother Fabrizio, for years the official SBK World Championship photographer. Championship standings and statistics complete a book that is sure to be source of reference for all fans.

Ayrton Senna is still the best loved of Formula 1 champions. Now that 20 years have passed since his tragic fatal accident at Imola on 1 May 1994, it is time to rediscover who and what Ayrton really was. An emotional yet rigorous journey that takes place along the two lines of visual testimony and in-depth intimacy. The stars of this book are the photographs: hundreds of shots and all of them in colour, which will ensure the reader relives the unrepeatable career of this great champion, from his humble beginnings in karts to his lightening experiences in lesser formulae in Britain, through to his rapid move to Formula 1. First with Toleman, then Lotus, with whom he won his first Grand Prix. But the definitive consecration of Ayrton took place at McLaren, where he won three F1 World Championships between 1988 and 1993 but, more than anything else, pulled off a series of ventures that are the stuff of legends. All bound together with new revelations, anecdotes, confidences and stories of a life that was lived, the gift of those who knew him well.To make the heart beat a little faster within those who have not forgotten and to have a vibrant and different account of the man, a new view to bring back the brilliance of an old sentiment, able to chrystallise itself in the pictures and between the lines of this book.

Six victories, two pole positions, eight fastest laps and 13 podium places - statistics that are anything but striking. In Formula 1 today, there are drivers who have won a great deal more, but Gilles Villeneuve cannot be evaluated by numbers alone - simply because there is no way of measuring the level of excitement that he brought to racing. Even though he has been dead for over 30 years, the legend of the Canadian, who was killed on 8 May 1982, is still imbued with strong emotion - Gilles the "Aviator" as Enzo Ferrari nick-named him, the driver for whom the expression "Villeneuve Fever" was coined. From his "crazy flight" at Fuji in 1977, his first GP win at home in Canada in 1978, the unforgettable 1979 season followed by a year of purgatory, his epic success at Monaco in 1981 and the in-house duel with Didier Pironi at Imola in 1982, to that last "crazy flight" at Zolder. "Gilles Villeneuve: Immagini di una vita/A life in pictures" relives the legend, with previously unpublished pictures and authoritative text by Mario Donnini.

Marc Márquez is the new motorcycle racing icon, the very young rider who has changed the face of MotoGP by winning the world title at just 21 years old. His story is told in this book by Marco Masetti, the well-established motorcycle racing journalist, who closely follows MotoGP as his publication''s correspondent. Masetti has literally seen Márquez grow from when he was a little boy with racing in his blood to when he became the sport''s sensation on two wheels, a true heir to Valentino. As well as this world championship-winning rider, whose career has been nothing short of startling, away from the racetrack, the man and his own personality emerge. And all of this is told amid exceptionally spectacular pictures by outstanding photographers Gigi Soldano, Tino Martino and Jaime Olivares.

"We have to recreate the enthusiasm that surrounded the SPORT models, ever a synonym for the Lancia Zagatos": in 1991 this was the brief the recent graduate Andrea Zagato gave to Marco Pedracini, a young designer who had not long been hired by prestigious coachbuilder. It was out of this fortuitous and fortunate coming together of this far-sighted idea and the enthusiasm of Paul Koot, a Dutch fan and a businessman in the automotive sector, that an icon was born, the HYENA. A beautiful car, but one practically unknown to the general public. A car that could have repeated and even surpassed the commercial and sporting success of the Lancia Delta Integrale from which it was derived. Unfortunatley just 24 examples were produced due to the debateable decision taken by the Fiat/Lancia directors of the time.Following a rapid review of the evolution of the Lancia Delta over the year, this book, written by an enthusiastic collector, examines the difficult genesis of the Hyena, from the first steps with the publication of the very first (previously unpublished) sketches and numerous photos and then follows its development, engineering and production through to its presentation at the car shows and in brochures. The book is completed by a comprehensive technical section, with the project list and the spare parts catalogue as well as an extensive photographic portrait of one particular example, N. 20. Lastly, all 24 Lancia Hyenas are examined, with the intention of reconstructing their specifications, their destination and the country in which they are jealously conserved by the enthusiast and collectors who possess a precious example.

Between 1965 and the Nineties, the 1000 Km of Monza-Filippo Caracciolo Trophy, was one of the most classical endurance races - a sort of 24 hours of Le Mans - and for many seasons was, rightfully, a round in the world championships for sports cars and prototypes. Top drivers and cars challenged each other on that historic Italian track and banking, the car makers including Porsche, Ferrari and Ford, bringing to life many unforgettable pages in the history of motor sport. Aldo Zana, prominent motor racing historian, tells this fabulous story, year after year, included the competitions held between 1995 and 2008. Every edition is enriched with starting grids and final placings. A huge work, never attempted since now, illustrated with outstanding pictures, many of them never before published.

Having left motor racing in the early 1950s - at least officially - Alfa Romeo returned to the sport once again at the start of the following decade due to the commitment and enthusiasm of Autodelta. This Alfa offshoot distinguished itself by preparing and racing about 30 of the manufacturer's different cars that really did make history. Among them, the Giulia TZ holds a place at the head of the crowd. It had a 1.5-litre, 113 hp engine from the Giulia SS, front and rear suspension of modern conception, disc brakes and an especially bold body shaped by Zagato on a modern tubular chassis. Those were the strong points of this car, which scored results of absolute prestige in its brief career at Sebring, in the Targa Florio, the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the Tour de France. Vito Witting da Prato, already the author of a meticulously written book on the Alfa Romeo SZ, covers the winning, human, technical and sporting factors of this unforgettable car in a monumental work. A book which, to the precise text and painstaking historical reconstruction, has been added illustrations of previously unpublished pictures and technical designs by Autodelta.

An event as significant for Alfa Romeo enthusiasts as the reopening of the marque's historic museum at Arese - held on 24 June 2015, the day on which Alfa celebrates its 105th anniversary - could hardly not be celebrated with a book. The official catalogue of the new museum represents an opportunity to review the history of the marque and above all to accompany the reader/visitor around the new exhibition layout in which the cars have been thematically grouped and subdivided. The glorious racing cars (from the P2 to the 33 in all their variants, through to the less successful cars that competed in F1) are brought together under the section VELOCITA' introduced by Alfa Romeo driver Nino Vaccarella, while cars such as the 1759, 8C 2900, 6C 2500, 1900, Giulietta and Alfetta, along with the most recent production models, illustrate the most important episodes in the Biscione's industrial history in the TIMELINE section - introduced by American journalist Nick Czap. The section BELLEZZA - introduced by designer Lorenzo Ramaciotti, head of Style for the Fiat Group for years - focuses on the undisputed protagonists being cars such as the 33 Stradale, the Carabo and the Nuvola, milestones in the evolution of automotive styling.A specific chapter also features all those models that do not appear in the exhibition. The catalogue is therefore an indispensable instrument for all those visiting this authentic temple of history, technology and culture.

The stories of Monza and Formula 1 are inseparable, two examples of motor sport par excellence that come together once a year, cross each other's paths and bring to life pages of history rich in fascination. In this book, enthusiasts will find accounts, but above all the pictures covering the most significant moments in a long journey that began way back in 1949 to reach the present day, with the exploits of the stars of the wheel and the best single seaters ever. To cover once again this exciting partnership is to immerse oneself in drivers, technicians, cars and the spectators - those of Monza are unique and incomparable - triumphs and tragedies. Hundreds of mostly previously unpublished pictures in colour and black and white comprise the structure of this volume, which just has to be in the libraries of all Formula 1 enthusiasts.

As with previous years, 2015 was one in which Mercedes-Benz dominated both the drivers' and constructors- championships. The German manufacturer confirmed the technical advantage it had derived from the introduction of the revolutionary power unit, which first appeared in 2014. In place of Red Bull, which fell into disgrace after a media conflict with engine supplier Renault, it was Ferrari that attempted to stand up to the Silver Arrows. Side issues were the stories of a Williams wanting to come back and battle for the title; McLaren with a new but not very effective Honda engine, which touched the lowest point in the Japanese manufacturer's long history in F1; and the other leading teams of a season that ended with the official announcement of Renault's return, having acquired Lotus. Offering a precise analysis of this latest F1 championship, especially from the technical point of view, there is once again Giorgio Piola. A hundred or so all-colour illustrations document the development of the various cars throughout the Formula 1 World Championship, and offer - as always - a wealth of information anticipating the 2016 season.

Experience the full career of racing legend Mario Andretti as recounted by the champion himself. The core of this biography is presented via interviews Andretti has given over the decades and expertly brought together by author Mario Donnini. Anecdotes, testimonials, quips, and jokes come together to give new light on motor racing history.

Great photographer Manrico Martella covers in this book the entire history of world rallying through his lens, from the early `70s to today. “What are rallies to me? They are over 40 years of life throughout the world, 40 years of joy, pain, emotions, human contact, but above all they comprise a long period of time of constant research for the right shot, one where newspapers had to make them the lead story or illustrate a centre page double spread. That picture has always touched on the difficult task of catapulting the reader right into the heart of Kenya and its sand and unlimited sky: in the midst of Sweden’s ice or through the damp British forests. This has always been the main objective of my search, to live the atmosphere of a location, the pathos of a moment and the excitement of being there, all encapsulated in one shot. It is also for that reason that rally cars are never the key protagonists of my images, but rather one of the various elements that compose those rallying panoramas comprising people, villages, woods, mountains or the sea – whatever – all indisputable protagonists equal to the cars and their drivers”. Those are the words of of this extraordinary photographic artist: the most fabulous and victorious cars and the greatest drivers never got away from his eye. The text is by Emanuele Sanfront, sports journalist, `60s and `70s driver and navigator.

Michael Schumacher: the greatest of all time. A champion with a reputation founded on records, the man who has brought most glory to Ferrari in the modern era. With a dramatic coda to the story that we like to think of as a pit stop before a return to the race, to normality. Michael Schumacher enthralled a generation of fans, but not all the episode in his remarkable career are widely known. While it is true that it is in the nooks and crannies of life great novels are born, in this book there is a search for that which in the emphasis on celebration and success has gone unnoticed, painting a picture of a Schumacher full of enthusiasm but with a degree of fragility. The man behind the driver, with his loves, his manias, his passion concealed behind a veil of stubborn reserve that is by no means violated but rather observed from a certain distance, over time, in all its guises and nuances.

Following the monograph devoted to the Lui, this latest volume focuses on another iconic Lambretta the TV-LI Series I. In the history of the Lambretta, the TV and LI Series I laid the foundations of a new engineering concept that revolutionised the traditional model with shaft drive, sold from 1947 to 1958 in hundreds of thousands of examples. There were numerous innovations characterising this new series of models: the engine adopted a duplex chain transmission with a four-speed gearbox and the cylinder was set horizontally, while in terms of the chassis, the most significant novelties concerned the larger 10" wheels and the dimensions of the bodywork. No less important were the improvements to the rear suspension, which abandoned the famous torsion bar for a more efficient motorcycle-style spring-damper unit. For the first time a Lambretta reached a displacement of 170 cc and could offer high performance with a maximum speed of over 100 kph. This model, which went head-to-head with the Vespa 150 GS, is without doubt one of the most sought-after by collectors today. Even the more tranquil LI 125 and 150 were extremely successful, with thousands of examples of this exceptional Innocenti scooter still on the roads today, appreciated for their incredible robustness and stability. Vittorio Tessera, "Mr Lambretta," covers the entire technical, industrial and social history of these models, while the books is illustrated with hundreds of photographs.

The story returns, with new chapters and prospects about to unfold. The agreement between Sauber and Alfa Romeo brings back to the World Championship stage a name that for so long was an integral part of Formula 1 series. Going back to the 1950 and 1951 seasons, the championship was bathed in the red of the Portello’s cars. Then came the eras of Chiti, Autodelta, the partnership with Brabham and then the Biscione marque’s return to F1 with the Alfa-Alfa. This book contains all this and much more, including the two seasons in the early Seventies with McLaren and March, the premature implosion of the agreement with Ligier, the sporadic appearances, especially of South African drivers, at the wheel of cars powered by an Alfa Romeo engine. The story is comprehensively illustrated with hundreds of colour and black and white images, many previously unpublished, and a list of all the results obtained by Alfa Romeo in Formula 1.

An invaluable book that sheds light on a relatively unknown but lengthy chapter in the history of design. The story of Ghia of Turin, a company active from the 1920s. The firm was responsible for some of the most important models in automotive history, frequently distinguished by daring and trend-setting styling.Tracing the history of Ghia brings to light models of particularly evocative appeal such as the Fiat 508 Sport Spider (1934), various Alfa Romeo 6C 2500s and the 1900 SS Abarth (1954), not to mention a number of unusual Ferraris from the same decade. A decade that was of fundamental importance to Ghia that, one after the other, produced a series of opulent cars inspired by the styling canons in vogue in the United States in that period, but also styling exercises such as the Volkswagen Karmann Ghia (1955). The Sixties were no less prolific, with further "classics” such as the Fiat 2300 S (1960), the De Tomaso Mangusta and Pantera (1966 and 1970) and the immortal Ghibli from 1966. As was the case for other Italian coachbuilders, there followed a period of crisis that saw the Ghia marque change hands on a number of occasions before being acquired by Ford.

All accompanied by contextual texts by Leonardo Acerbi, a Ferrari historian of great experience. The book contains a unique collection of images, many in black and white but also a series of very rare colour shots, the majority by Franco Villani, a great reporter long associated with the Prancing Horse. An album allowing us to relive one of the greatest sporting stories of all time.

The book is the fruit of hands-on experience gained in the workshop as well as knowledge gleaned over years of consulting books, manufacturers' manuals and specialist magazines by one of the leading technical journalists in the sector, Massimo Clarke. It is intended as an easy-to-read guide with clear, precise contents regarding the restoration of classic bikes, with attention being focussed not on pre-war models but those from the Sixties and Seventies, those on which we still work most frequently today. All aspects of restoration are dealt with special reference to mechanical work on the engines and the chassis components, those which enthusiasts can do themselves in their own garages, using tools that are easy to find at reasonable costs. The book is enhanced by an in-depth examination of the reassembly of the crankcase and two chapters dedicated to the final drive and the spark plugs. A guide of fundamental importance for those who want to "get their hands dirty" around their classic bikes.
