A unique look at the dogs, trainers, and dog recipients whose lives have been changed by a program where 8 week old puppies are companioned with prison inmates and trained there by them for 18 months, until they are released as service or aid dogs for individuals and governments. Includes 150 original and compelling photographs by renowned photographers Christopher Makos and Paul Solberg and an introduction and narrative by Gloria Gilbert Stoga, the organisation's creator. With moving images, this book serves as a testament to the many lives that have been positively affected by Puppies Behind Bars. From the moments these puppies and inmates bond, to one trained puppy's first-class flight to his new home and life in rural Texas, Makos and Solberg capture the moments these extraordinary dogs and their dedicated trainers share as they each work hard to give to those in need. With the photographer's unprecedented access to both a correctional facility for men as well as a correctional facility for women taking part in the program, Puppies Behind Bars is much more than an appealing look at these courageous canines, it is the wide-ranging story of these dogs' journeys and their extensive impact on society. Puppies Behind Bars is also a unique look at the dogs, inmate trainers, and dog recipients whose lives have been changed by this groundbreaking program. The experience is a win-win-win for all involved - the dogs are loved, nurtured, trained and given structure 24/7; the convicted felon has the opportunity to contribute to society and in return receives and gives love, which may be a life-changing experience for him or her; and ultimately, the recipient and community benefit when the trained dog lands in his new home as a life-long companion.

A unique collection of photographic images; an innovative study in visual abstraction. Take photographers David Weinberg's incredible tour of three American cities, and you'll find some familiar skyscrapers presented in very unexpected ways.In this remarkable collection of original photography, David Weinberg captures the creations of some of America's celebrated architects-from individuals like Helmut Jahn and Tom Beeby to illustrious firms like holabird & Roche and Kohn Pederson Fox - revealing how intriguing their towers of glass and steel truly are. The buildings featured here are reflective of our society; their modern design represent the accelerated pace of civilisation, while their glass facades act as literal mirrors, reflecting the scenes of urban life in a dazzling display of colour and movement. Weinberg takes us from the magnificent structures of Chicago to the creative designs of Dallas, Texas, and then further east to make the most of the extreme light in Sarasota, Florida. But Towering Mirrors, Mirroring Towers is more than exposition of modern buildings. It is a unique collection of photographic images; an innovative study in visual abstraction. Weinberg captures familiar skyscrapers in surprising ways, so that many of these photographs-shots of mercurial colors and shapes, reflected and warped into shimmering patterns of light - are no longer recognisable as building. His work is a reminder that our everyday surroundings are full of amazing and unexpected displays. We need only to look around, and we'll find them reflected back at us from every angle.

A poignant reflection on the importance of the animal-human bond, veterinarian Tom DeVincentis opens the doors to his New York City-based practice and reveals the amazing stories of his four-legged clients. From Emmany, the privileged and pampered pooch to Suzy, the lovable mutt who befriends her homeless owner to Cotton, DeVincentis's Tails of the City proves that there is a remarkable tale behind every pet.Launched as a celebration of the important advent of The Humane Society of the United States' Spay Day USA, here is a book by an author who knows all animals - not just dogs and cats. The lucky lambs and horses of Yorkshire were tended by James Herriot; the pedigreed cats and pampered pooches of New York City are privileged to be cared for by Tom DeVincentis. A 'country' veterinarian in Manhattan for more than 25 years, DeVincentis has tended for many generations of Big Apple pets. His Tails of the City combines the warm-heartedness of James Herriot with a dash of New York City style to present an engaging portrait and memoir, not just of the animals DeVincentis has treated over the years, but also of their owners, and of the city in which they all live.Readers are introduced to Rowdy, a seventeen-year-old domestic shorthair cat who, under the care of Dr. DeVincentis, lived many more than his allotted nine lives, and to an elderly boxer stray named Champ, rescued by an equally elderly couple who ran a bodega in Spanish Harlem and who rescued more pets than they could name. From the affection shared by lab mix Suzy and her owner, a homeless man named James to the hard-earned trust that formed between Tom DeVincentis and Margot, a dog he took home from the clinic where he worked, DeVincentis describes the cycle of life and love that every petowner and his or her charge experience, from the initial meeting to the final parting.Charming illustrations by the award-winning illustrator Bill Charmatz enhance the endearing stores that describe qualities of animals like those we ve all known and loved. At times poignant, at times laughout-loud funny, the tales in this charming book reveal as much about the people who own them as they do about the pets themselves. While the animals and people profiled are true New Yorkers, the connection they share is universal, and one that will resonate with animal lovers everywhere.

Represents a true photographic pioneer; Birk's medium is inventive and predates the contrived nostalgia of contemporary apps and filters. This innovative collection of images is a standout in the travel photography genre Upon relocating to Beijing, photographer Lukas Birk attempts to escape the sense of stagnation that plagued him in his central European home. He encounters a group of like-minded young creatives who share his sentiment of "nostalgia teetering on the edge of melancholy." Hoping to express that feeling, Birk discovers his father's collection of expired Polaroid film. With Birk's medium acting as a metaphor for the transformation of modern China - its rapid development and the void of nostalgia left behind - this book presents a sense of something from the past interrupted by modern motives, a collision of old and new world visions. In her insightful foreword, art advisor Katherine Don details Birk's contribution to contemporary art in China and comments on his pioneering innovation. Birk's stunning collection of inventive imagery captures the vibrancy of contemporary life, inspired by the filter of his own nostalgia and longing.

This captivating book, the second in a series christened A 21st Century Palace, offers readers a transporting virtual tour through one exceptionally dazzling palace. In this volume, we find ourselves in Jerusalem. Few places on Earth have exuded more mystery and power than this deified ancient city. And even fewer designers possess the worldliness and talent to bring that mystery and power into the third dimension in ways that both consider its many millennia of astonishing history and also telegraph a modernity as thoroughly fresh and modern as the current moment."That Bradfield takes breathtaking, albeit educated, risks that would daunt another designer is a testament to his confidence and maturity," says the Parisian gallerist Jean-Gabriel Mitterand. "It is unbelievably audacious to pair a precious, yet decorative, Claude Lalanne chandelier with a Peter Kogler table that utilises computer technology to create what is really state-of-the-art functional sculpture," notes Mitterand of one such daring juxtaposition. "They were not created in the same spirit, but in the end Geoffrey intuitively understood there was something essentially baroque about both of them. After decades of observing Bradfield championing artists such as the Lalannes prior to their becoming voraciously collected by wealthy purveyors of taste," says Mitterand, "His roster of clients has become more and more international, and he commands more and more authority." Which is why Bradfield finds himself now at the apex of his career. In his Foreword to this book, the Honorable John L. Loeb, former American Ambassador to Denmark, declares "Bradfield's rare talent has propelled him into the upper echelon of design - and places him amongst the few designers working in the world today who are truly global."

John Malkovich is an award-winng actor who has appeared in over 70 motion pictures and is instantly recognisable; Sandro Miller is an award-winning photographer with a wide folllowing.Over the course of 17 years, award-winning photographer Sandro Miller and inimitable actor John Malkovich combined their larger-than-life personas and talents to produce a series of portraits and films, most notably those that reconstruct the most iconic images in photographic history, in their Homage series. Others in the collection here capture the genius and range of Malkovich's acting ability in distinctive portraits as well as in film works. For lovers of the arts, photography, and John Malkovich, this book is indispensable. The first section of the book, Portraits, includes Malkovich in a variety of costumes and characters, ranging from playful to serious; while the second section, Homage, is devoted to recreating some of the most iconic portraits of all time. Here are representations of the likes of Annie Leibowitz's image of Yoko Ono and John Lennon; Bert Stern's photographs of Marilyn Monroe, and Dorothea Lange's "Migrant Mother." At first glance, it is difficult to tell that the subject in the photograph is in fact Malkovich, emphasising the unique nature of Malkovich's formidable acting ability and Sandro's talent for perfectly creating the lighting, environment and demeanour of the original photographs. Finally, the third section of the book, Motion, contains photographs from experimental films created by the artists in tandem. As one of pop culture's most cultish personalities, Malkovich's fluid ability as an actor perfectly complements Sandro's talents as a photographer and director.Rarely is an art book published that exhibits so gorgeously and extravagantly the talents of two extraordinary individuals working in collaboration over such a long period of time, one that also provides so much delight to those who are not cognoscenti, but merely aficionados of great and distinctive work. The book is complete with essays by Sandro Miller and Jon Siskel that describe all the details of the photographs including behind-the-scenes details.

Contains more than 180 works that celebrate a rich history of entertainment in an assemblage of images never before published as a complete collection.Fernando Botero's distinctive exaggerated forms perfectly complement the exaggerated atmosphere of the circus. The esteemed artist uses bright colours and unexpected movement to artfully manifest the poetry of the circus, inviting the viewer to participate in a circus with Botero as the artful ringmaster. In the tradition of great painters also inspired by circus fantasy - Renoir, Picasso, Chagall, and Calder, among others - Botero explores light, colour, style, and space with a poignancy that highlights through the extravagant disproportion of his figures the exceptional beauty of the human body. Circus, a collection of more than 130 paintings and 50 works on paper, celebrates this rich history of entertainment and astonishment in this assemblage of images never before published as a complete collection.

Fernando Botero, best known as "Maestro", is one of the most famous living artists in the world today. In Bullfight Botero focuses on the arena of man vs. animal in his study of Latin American culture today; the result is a beautiful meditation on one of the most dramatic sports on earth.Bullfight: Paintings and Works on Paper is Glitterati's second collection of works by world-renowned Colombian artist Fernando Botero. Featuring more than 140 oils paintings and 35 drawings, this book is a comprehensive look at another of the artist's most iconic subjects. In his youth, Botero developed a passion for bullfighting that has remained with him throughout his illustrious, six-decade career. The artist was profoundly influenced by the spectacle of the bullring - the vivid colours, the dynamic movement, the beauty and violence, bravery and fear. In Botero's signature style, the figures of the bullfight appear inflated and voluptuous, a grandiose exploration of scale, space, and volume. Matadors and picadors, horses and bulls, spirited crowds and striking portraits - all are exaggerated and exalted by the hand of the artist. As Jose Manuel Caballero Bonald writes, "His task is not to reproduce reality as it appears before the naked eye but rather to reinvent or reconstruct it according to his personal experience and accumulated feelings. In this sense there is no painter more truly Colombian than Botero. And yet, the more genuinely local his art is, the more universal it becomes."Fernando Botero (b. 1932) is the most famous living artist of our time, whose distinctive figures are instantly recognisable. His work is internationally praised and has been spotlighted by The New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, Art in America, and BBC Newsnight as well as by Sotheby's in New York, the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Smithsonian Institution, The Museum of Modern Art, and The Guggenheim in Bilbao and New York, amongst others. At the start of his career, the Colombian artist studied at the Academia de San Fernando in Madrid before travelling to Paris and Florence to expand upon his understanding of fine art. In 1958, he gained widespread recognition for his first prize piece at the Salón de Artistas Colombianos. The author of Circus: Paintings and Works on Paper (Glitterati Incorporated, 2013), Botero continues to be an active member of the art community and works primarily in Monte Carlo and Italy. Curtis Bill Pepper (b. 1917) is an American author and journalist. He has worked for The New York Times, Newsweek, the United Press International, and CBS. Pepper is the author of seven books, the latest of which is a biographical novel of Leonardo da Vinci. He also contributed an essay to Circus: Paintings and Works on Paper by Fernando Botero (Glitterati Incorporated, 2013). Pepper divides his time between homes in Umbria, Italy and New York City with his wife, the sculptor, Beverly Pepper. Also available:Circus: Paintings and Drawings ISBN 9780988174511
