Doors of Kypseli is a serious, beautiful, and meticulously rendered dive into the surprising modernity of mid 20th century Athenian architecture. A compilation of 100 illustrations presenting the diverse array of wrought iron door designs from this culturally and geographically central Athens neighbourhood, Doors of Kypseli is Eleanor Lines’s love letter to her adopted city. With camera, or smartphone, in hand, Lines methodically traverses through Kypseli, north, south, east and west, through tiny side streets and down grand boulevards, photographing, cataloguing and selecting the most unique and interesting doors in the neighbourhood and its surrounding borders. Lines’s curation, based on these walks in the area, focuses on designs from the 1930s to the 1960s, with influences from Art Deco, Bauhaus, and modernist design. Using the resulting photos, Eleanor manipulates, vectorizes and perfects each door; replacing missing handles, completing long since rusted bars, and bringing each back to an illustrated version of its former glory. Every design is then converted and printed in a stunning signature blue (inspired by the blueprints of the vintage architectural drawings) which serves to enhance the visual impact of the multitudinous patterns. Accompanied by an insightful essay by cultural writer Nikos Vatopoulos, Doors of Kypseli not only celebrates the beauty of these wrought iron masterpieces, but also delves into the social and historical significance of Athenian urban development.

“You Ate My Ears” is an illustrated anthology of 60 idioms from around the world: those weird, wonderful, and sometimes rude expressions that are nonsensical unless you’re a native speaker of the language of origin. Idioms such as “Stop ironing my head” or “Like an angel peeing on your tongue” inspire Vitorovich to create “literal” illustrations that capture the cheeky and inventive and often bizarre ways of communicating in each culture. The idea emerged last summer when the artist visited her grandparents in Belgrade, where she discovered a book on Serbian idioms. She and her grandma read through all the expressions, and as her grandma tried to explain their meaning and origin, they ended squealing with laughter. For example, in Serbia, they say “Morning is smarter than the evening,” an expression that may only make sense if you’ve spent an evening drinking with a group of Serbians.Idioms are so ingrained in our daily speech that we rarely think about how they came into existence or why we use them. It’s often only when we try to explain them to a non-native speaker that we realize their complexity – and often their absurdity. After Vitorovich collected and studied these expressions, she brought these absurd meanings to life through her playful, witty eye. She found the process incredibly entertaining and hopes the readers of the book will feel the same.

Lost Things Found is the outcome of a long-term photographic project exploring the Eleonas flea market in Athens. It’s a photo book about the curious world of things: how they come together in the most unexpected and mind-boggling ways, telling stories about history, identity, and connection. In the photographers own words: “On most Sundays, I start by crossing Iera Odos, just past the glistening metallic escalators of the Eleonas metro station and a lesser-known archaeological site covered by a thick dusty protective glass. Looking left, one can see the Parthenon on the horizon, unimpressively sticking out behind industrial steel roofs, commercial signs, and antennas. (…) My reason for being here is to look at things: colors, words, and shapes constantly distract me, along with the warm sunlight casting shadows on every backdrop: there is little of what I see that I can predict. While looking, my mind often strays, only to be rushed back by someone waiting in line a moment later. There is so much here that reminds me of something else. Many times I’ve been tempted to buy something for no apparent reason. (…)There’s a joke going around Athens that everything you’ve ever lost eventually ends up in the market of Eleonas. Often you hear stories of apartments being looted for valuables immediately after their tenants are gone. But mostly it’s just business as usual: old stock of unsold products, food, clothes, tools, and everyday accessories, simply sold cheaper than market price. Most people spend most of their lives earning a living: one person’s loss is another’s gain. What someone has forgotten, another gets to remember”.

From the artist: “I remember walking down the hill from Four Corners to Kamini, bewildered by the sun and the sweltering heat... I saw a young girl picking berries from the bushes and eating them, her face covered in the red purple and blue. She looked happy and when I passed her I saw that her T-shirt read “Happy”.The book represents an essential part of the artist’s practice, when he is away from his studio in LA. Sketchbooks and loose pieces of hotel stationery become the main outlets for new ideas and observations. Memories of Hydra continues the artist's proactive approach of publishing site specific sketchbooks, in full, which provide a peek into his work outside the studio. Those sketchbooks, in turn, inform larger works on canvas created when the memory wanes and becomes hazier.

Following the success of last year’s Travelogue: Greek everyday solutions to common problems, Hyper Hypo and Papairlines have teamed up once more for the publication of a second stimulating and hilarious volume. 88 all-new photographs from across the country capture spontaneous Greek ingenuity, where imaginative hacks offer clever solutions to simple, everyday problems. An ancient column used as an ashtray, a standing fan used to cool down a car engine, an old phone booth converted into a religious shrine, a spoon playing the role of a doorstop. All of these DIY delights and more will tickle the inner inventor of even the most jaded reader.A few words about the new edition from the curators:The first volume of Travelogue: Greek everyday solutions to common problems came with a great surprise: what we initially thought was a personal design project turned out to have a wider reach, an ethnographic and cultural angle that made it relatable to a non-design oriented audience. It has been a great pleasure to observe people’s reactions, to receive messages and images from our peers, but also from complete strangers who obtained a copy. (…) Furthermore, our publishers kept sharing stories of the reactions from clients of their bookshop in Athens, and we followed the book travelling to a number of bookshops from the US to Korea. With all this positive feedback, it was only natural for us to move forward with this follow-up volume, presenting even more images of ingenious solutions found across Greece.(…) In a world that is becoming more controlled by algorithms and less by personal human curiosity, the objects in Travelogue Vol. 2: Greek everyday solutions to common problems occupy the liminal space between uniformity and uniqueness, timelessness and trend, planet and production, access and availability, need and materials. In the end, these objects may hold the key to understanding what luxury, craftsmanship, knowledge and ingenuity can mean at the dawning of a new world.

The Greek public sector has long been seen as both essential and frustrating, yet it has rarely been captured on film. Michalis Patsouras’s series 7 a.m. – 3 p.m. (1993–2000) changes that, offering a behind-the-scenes look at everyday life inside the Ministry of Commerce, where, as a young man, he worked as a technician. His evocative black-and-white photos show crowded offices filled with papers, worn-out furniture, and employees caught between routine, fatigue, and small moments of joy — sharing sweets, dancing, or taking quiet breaks. Patsouras resigned in 2000 to pursue photography full-time, leaving behind the stability of civil service. His work preserves a fading world of paper files and typewriters, but also reveals something deeper: the contradictions of a system that is often resented yet relied upon, and the quiet humanity of the people who keep it running. The series remained unseen and unpublished for over two decades before being presented at the Photometria Festival (Ioannina, 2022) and at the Thessaloniki Photobiennale 2023. Now, Hyper Hypo publications brings Patsouras’s images to the world with the release of a richly printed, hardcover photo book whose beautifully rendered images capture all the grittiness and atmosphere of the original prints; serving as a visual document of an era that feels both recent and distant. The photos are accompanied by an essay from professor and curator of photography Hercules Papaioannou, which seeks to contextualize Patsouras’s photographic series, and his experience in general, into the infamous world of the Greek public sector.

Hyper Hypo is proud to announce the publication of Boys With Feelings by noted Greek photographer Kostis Fokas. Though his work has been published widely in magazines and exhibited in galleries across Europe and the US, this is his first solo book. Fokas’s work always focuses on the human form, and in Boys With Feelings specifically on the nude male body. The balletic, sometimes acrobatic, twisted and intertwined bodies of his subjects interact with each other, with themselves and with the viewer in a singular expressive manner. These are not just the usual nude photos. The models remain faceless, save for the inclusion of a few solitary eyes gazing directly at the camera. Their bodies transformed into landscapes — into abstracted mases. Arms become legs, torsos merge into themselves, hands grasp mounds of flesh, desexualizing what could otherwise be considered simply erotic images. How many bodies are in this photo? Where does the one model end and where does the other begin? In a world sadly accustomed to more and more alienation and isolation, Fokas’s images celebrate the pure joy and beauty of human connection and touch. His playful yet formal approach allows the viewer to share in the intimacy of every moment he captures without the constraints of patriarchal shame and digital detachment. Fokas aims his lens at the body as a site of desire, fantasy, submission and memory. In his own words: “This project emerged from loneliness, but within that solitude I began to hear myself more clearly. It marks my journey into adulthood — perhaps a bit late, but nevertheless deeply felt.” Kostis Fokas (Athens, 1979), is a conceptual photographer whose practice centers on the exploration and the complexities of the human body. Fokas’s work has been exhibited in the US and Europe including at the Louvre Museum, Colette, Art Basel Miami, the Benaki Museum, and MOMus Museum of Modern Art Thessaloniki, among others. Fokas has collaborated with and published his work in Zeit Magazine, Les Inrockuptibles, L’obs, i-D, Dazed, The Advocate, Gay Times, Gayletter and other international publications and websites.

Her Mess, the publication, is the published documentation of an ongoing guerrilla campaign of the same name, that has taken over the streets of Mexico City, Athens, and Berlin by visual artist Olga Migliaressi-Phoca. What appears at first like a luxury advertising campaign reveals itself, on closer look, as something far more intimate and disruptive.Playing with the visual language of high-fashion branding, the project riffs on the iconic Hermès logo, transforming it into HER MESS—a tongue-in-cheek brand that reframes femininity behind the scenes. What is often considered messy, taboo, or unpresentable is recast with humor, care, and a sense of luxury. From menstrual blood stains on underwear and swimwear, to trims of pubic hair, or small, often unnoticed bodily details, the work brings what is usually kept private into public view.Blending feminist body art, subvertising, and urban intervention, Her Mess critiques the commodification and control of women’s bodies under capitalist and patriarchal systems. By isolating bodily elements rather than presenting the whole figure, the work resists eroticisation and exposes the contradictions of beauty standards. Its ephemeral, anonymous installations function as acts of protest, aligning with a broader tradition of culture jamming that challenges dominant visual and social norms. Installed as flyposters across the three cities, the im- ages blend seamlessly into the visual noise of the street—until they don’t. By occupying public space, HER MESS disrupts expectations, confront- ing viewers with what is typically erased or polished away.

Amphorae: An Incomplete Compendium of Non-Ancient Greek Vesselsby Anna Kiosse takes everything you think you know about the hallowed ancient ceramics and turns it upside down. 157 unique drawings of decidedly NON-ancient vessels, that started simply as “a way to fill blank pages”, brimming with all the colours of the spectrum, with shapes inspired by antiquity and others that have just come from Anna’s head. Phrases like“Go with the flow” “Nothing Lasts Forever” “Love Me Harder” “I wish I was special” “YOLO” “Can I Pet Your Dog?” may sound like the ravings of a mad poet, the words scrawled on a bathroom stall or in a teenager’s diary, but scribbled across the revered shapes of the ancients, they become the little works of genius for today. In prehistoric and Ancient Greece, amphorae were originally used simplyas transport and storage vessels. Later, amphorae became more and more decorative, made to be displayed. Their distinctive handles and oblong shape became a literal canvas for some of the most talented artists/ illustrators of antiquity. Now imagine if those same artisans were creating today. Make them pop with colour, draw them with lines that are raw and punk, add phrases which shout out your feelings, whisper in your lover’s ear, or stumble over drunken lyrics you sing with your friends. This unique, joyous mishmash erupts out of the hands and spirit of Anna Kiosse, the artist, illustrator, ceramicist, graphic designer, author (she calls herself a Swiss army knife) behind Amphorae.

The Greece Notebook, by Michael McGregor, is a collection of “point and click” drawings – each made in a flash to emulate the candidness of shooting snapshots on a disposable camera while on holiday. Each rendering was created during a 3 month journey around Greece in 2022. By no means a flashy trip to Mykonos or an influencer’s paid holiday in Santorini, The Greece Notebook dives into the mundane, the daily details of every day life in Greece. From the Ionian islands to Athens; from the port city of Piraeus to the Aegean Sea and the Cyclades, McGregor’s impressionist travelogue is an observational examination of Greece through the eyes of an outsider. Well known for his lively still-life paintings and drawings, Michael McGregor is an artist living and working in Los Angeles. He has exhibited in the US, the UK, Italy and Mexico, as well as contributed to various international magazines and periodicals. Founded in 2021, Hyper Hypo is an Athens-based independent bookshop and publishing house which specializes in the wealth of contemporary visual culture.
