Their trick-or-treating is going greatuntil the boys realize that someone has given them apples instead of candy! Showing off their skills, each of the boys uses his apple to complete a stunt. In this, my first published book, I have taken some eighty-six poems from more than three hundred I have written over nearly fifty years. Some express a simple faith in God the Father, some give praises to Jesus, some focus on biblical events and people, and some are what I call the opposite of the parables of Jesus. Instead of comparing an earthly situation with a heavenly situation, as Jesus did, I contrast the two. Some good examples are Scars, God Will Never Leave Us, and You Can Count on Me. Finally, I have included poems about family relationships, including mothers, fathers, and daughters. If you are a Christian, I hope this book will bless you; if you dont know Jesus as your Savior, it is my prayer that God will use this book to show you one simple truth that Jesus loves you.

CHERISHED MEMORIES is a poetic history of a loving family spanning six generations from the mid-1850s to the present. Love, romance, humor, joy, sadness, loss, and survival have fifi lled my years. Then, ultimately, contentment is mine. Everyday happenings and surprises are the inspiration for the poetry within these pages. My book is an optimistic view of the tapestry of life. I hope my poetry brings you joy.

"My first awareness of anything sexual was the Sears Roebuck catalogue. Somewhere in its 1,000 pages were the bra and girdle advertisements."

"My first month''s paycheck in the Air Corps was $32.00. The withholding tax was about $4.00 so I had $28.00 a month to splurge. It was a tight squeeze until I learned to play poker."

"Sometimes I wonder if there are any more tears to be shed."

"It was 3:30 in the morning but every one of the 3,000 men on the troopship was on deck to see the Statue of Liberty as we sailed into New York Harbor."

"My clothing comes from other outlets, but I don''t mind receiving catalogs from Victoria''s Secret."

"Youth will never understand that time passes slowly for them and quickly for us looking back."

The story you are about to envelope is a tale untold, unheard, and unseen. It is a tale set thousands of years ago in the ancient times, a tale of a village, an evil king, a hero, and a deep blue sea.

The village of Arutham, cursed by an invasion of the terrible King Asak and trapped by the realms of the deep blue sea, suffers for eighteen years hoping for freedom and fearing the kings wrath.

King Asak rules countless villages and acquires wealth, as the devil haunts his villagers suffering from a prophecy that he fears from.

The hero, Rozac Lons, an eighteen-year-old orphan living the life of a toymaker, awakens to fight and free his enchained villagers from the devil.

The deep blue sea holds the dead bodies of the poor villagers, cursing the people of the village forever.

From all of this comes a tale of a mans journey to free his villagers from a curse, a devil, and deep blue sea. It is the journey of unity, toil, dedication, and duty to work fearlessly and fight for truth.

Destiny is the coming-of-age story of Richard and Rachel. They are twins who were separated in a tragic car accident resulting in the death of their mother while they were still toddlers. Raised separately in very different settings, they are reunited at age eighteen. Leadership tends to remain an undefined quality to most managers. We see people with leadership abilities and often refer to them as having leadership skills. Yet, in most personnel meetings, leadership is mostly discussed as a singular skill that one either possesses or not. In the process of selecting personnel for advancement in management, the most common approach is to cherry-pick those who look and act most like us, or someone who matches our paradigm of a leader.

This book attempts to break down leadership into teachable skill sets that can be practiced and honed to improve your leadership abilities. It is designed in individual elements to allow you to focus on one area at a time for more effective learning.

At last! An insightful book about cultivating generosity from a generous lay leader and donor, and not from a professional fundraiser or clergy leader. Rem Stokes alone knows more about the psychology of donorsand has demonstrated that insight over more yearsthan a whole busload of ministers and consultants put together. If you want to understand how to change the culture of your congregation or group in the direction of abundance, not scarcity, this is your guidebook.

Money pervades all aspects of our lives, but we dare not discuss it for fear of touching the proverbial third rail. The discomfort we experience may be that it reveals more than we want it to. All individuals fear rejection and want acceptance. And money becomes the agent of compensation, the hopium of the masses.

But it is a false hope. Money is extrinsic and can only buy external things. Money simply cannot buy the things most worth having.

Wherever there is pain or embarrassment, there is essential learning to be done.

I believe churches should address the stranglehold that money has on our attitudes. Churches cannot be truly relevant to their members real-life issues without addressing the money dimension that underlies their attitudes and behaviors. You cannot compartmentalize a person into secular and spiritual categories without damaging his wholeness.

This book addresses that issue head on. Churches need programs that let money permeate the environment in a wholesome and constructive way. Those programs should help overcome the reluctance to discuss money and cultivate a culture of generosity. This book provides a set of exercises and a rationale for churches to achieve these goals, moving members from self-interest to self-esteem.

Do your legs tremble when you stand in place? Do you find yourself needing to sit down, so you wont fall? Then you have as many questions as I do. What is wrong with me? How do I cope with this? Is there medicine to help? What about physical therapy? What is this new brain surgery known as deep brain stimulation? Will it help me? Am I the only one to have this problem?

In my twenty-two-year trek with orthostatic tremor, I have found some of the answers. A rare neurological movement disorder, OT continues to baffle medical science. I am sharing my experiences in order to: 1) help identify orthostatic tremor symptoms , 2) explain the alternative of deep brain stimulation, 3) describe practical ways to manage the unique challenges of OT, 4) teach how to cope with an HMOs process of securing outside referral, and 5) offer hope for living with a disorder that currently has no cure.

After setting out on a nice drive up the canyon, Cari and her fianc, Michael, were forced over the edge on a roller-coaster ride down the mountain, which ended when their car slammed into a stand of trees. Cari slowly crawled back up the mountain and was shocked to hear vocal promptings of encouragement, even though Michaels lifeless body lay in the wrecked car. His one request was for her to find the person responsible for his death and promised to be at her side when needed.

Why would someone want to kill them? Will Cari survive, and will she find justice for her fianc? Perhaps, after meeting the young man who found her lying on the side of the road or the detective who didnt believe her story. Possibly, reuniting with a former friend would make the difference. Then there was that nagging fear that her father would carry out his threat to kill her. She discovered that he had been released from prison and barely managed to hold herself together upon meeting him face to face. As Cari travels down this perilous road and faces more danger than she ever anticipated, is it possible for her to find true happiness?

Ann-Carol learned how to address her most distraught feelings by writing poetry. It was not until she was going through tough times 24/7 that she began to have this thought of how to go about helping herself and her three children. One day, she had this nagging thought in the back of her mind with respect to writing; not sure of what she was supposed to do, she did nothing immediately.

Then one night, she sat alone and just began to write. She soon realized that she was rhyming words. One thing led to another, and she realized that by writing poetry, she was able to help herself understand the emotions she was experiencing. Of course, there were so many emotions to deal with, and even today, she still reads what she wrote. In so doing, it helps her to deal with what is taking place. However; through this, she began to have a stronger faith and understanding of God/Higher Power, which is vital to our existence.

Once There Were Three

Mack W. Hampton

Lord, how could You have let this happen to me?

Have you ever said that when adversity or tragedy confronted you? The answers are often too few to satisfy most of us. Even Job did not receive the reason for his sorrows. But God does offer hope, a sure foundation for trust when it is based on Gods Word. At least thats how Mack Hampton came to terms with the actions of a sovereign God.

Once There Were Three is a poignant and honest first-person account of one mans struggle with the anguish of losing a loved one. Author Hamptons true story of his daughters death and its aftermath is an attempt to describe such a loss and discuss that which only can fill the void-faith in Almighty God.

Hampton shares, through reflections interspersed with poetry and letters, some of his most agonizing thoughts as he struggled to see Gods perspective on the events. He gives some relevant suggestions for dealing with the trauma of death. Four things from Matthew 6:33 are especially noteworthy:

1. Return to Gods Word.

2. Return to God in prayer.

3. Major on majors. (First things first).

4. Return to God in His ways.

Army Brat, Army Bride, Civilian: A Life reveals the ups and downs of military living through the experiences of one who was both a sergeants daughter and an officers wife. The military teaches many lessons but not how to transition to civilian life after more than thirty years of moving around in the Army, including attending five different high schools as a teenager.

While in the Army, families learn to adapt to renting or buying an apartment or house in town or to being assigned a set of Army quarters on a military post. If in quarters, they must not paint walls or install carpet or leave holes in walls where pictures used to hang. Although the Army is a highly structured organization, flexibility is a key word for its families.

Dealing with snafus, making decisions which seem right at the time but turn out to be trumped by the demands of the military, adjusting to new places, and making new friends every two to three years are all part of living the military life. Yet the adventure and excitement of this life are evident throughout.

You dont hear people arguing that there can be such a thing as non-intelligent designand yet even though people generally recognize design when they see it, many wont acknowledge the intelligence behind that design. Intelligent people believing in non-intelligent design leads to an obvious question: How can anything be designed with no intelligence guiding its design and construction?

Author Keith Ericson doesnt focus on religion in this study, but instead maintains that

a powerful intelligence must be behind the design of the human body;

many doctors have a hard time accepting evolution as fact instead of theory;

families want their children to get both sides of the story; and

common sense and logic must be used when examining science.

Ericson also provides a test at the end of the book that you can take to see how much you know before reading and once more when youre done, to see how much youve learned.

By learning about the human body, its microscopic makeup, and the ways that everything works, you can discover insights that may leave you questioning your assumptions about humanity and existence.

We often wonder what our children dream about at night. I asked my son one morning what he dreamt of, and as I guessed in song, he had a sparkle in his eyes and a smile upon his face that warmed my heart. He brings me joy and peace every day. Every night I tell him to have sweet dreams all night long. After all, a dreamer accomplishes much in life and reaches high for goals. An imagination is important for a child to truly enjoy childhood and pass that on for generations. We all want our children to be happy and reflect on wonderful memories later on in life.

A perfect bedtime story read! What do you dream of at night? A soaring imagination is just as fun at night as it is during the day. A creative mind means a creative child. Be a dreamer!
