Say So brings together American artist Whitney Hubbs’ recent self-portraits, which were taken in the style of cheap, lewd pornographic pin-ups. After her acclaimed book Woman in Motion in which she photographed models, Say So continues her quest to explore and challenge the relationship between the camera and the female body.

Promise Land is a visual poetic epic that usurps photographic convention to confront what Gregory Eddi Jones considers the spiritual poverty of common cultural pictures. The book uses T.S. Eliot’s masterpiece, The Waste Land (1922), as its point of departure, to create a sequence of images that picks up where the poem left off nearly 100 years ago.

How photography transforms the future as much as the pastThis book proposes a radical concept: that the photograph is as much an object of the future as it is of the past. Exploring a familiar medium through a new lens, the book asserts that photographic technologies, processes, experiences and products are geared toward a world to come, not a world that has been. Written as a sequence of short interlinking essays, To Be Determined takes its cue from Czech-born philosopher Vil m Flusser in its quest to reconceive the tools of photography and show how they inform the world around us. Moving between contemporary photography and fine art, the book proposes that artists and photographers who question photography's capacities can also alter our understanding of the medium and change our perception of our own agency, and our capacity to see, think and act.Duncan Wooldridge (born 1981) is an artist, writer and teacher at Camberwell College of Arts, University of the Arts London (UAL). He is the author of John Hilliard: Not Black and White (Ridinghouse) and is a regular contributor to 1000 Words, Foam and Over.

Image Text Music by writer and editor Catherine Taylor is a series of textual and photographic essays that explore our encounters with the place where the visual meets the verbal. Taylor riffs on and subverts Roland Barthes’ classic 1977 essay collection, Image Music Text, using his title as playful points of departure for her thinking.

American critic and curator Vince Aletti has been collecting photographs printed on the pages of magazines and books since the 1970s. For the very first time the hundreds of tearsheets, newspaper clippings, gallery announcements, and other ephemera stacked in a drawer of an antique flat file in his East Village apartment have been documented in the new book The Drawer. The seventy-five multi-layered compositions created by Aletti are a celebration of the beauty of photography and the printed page, as well as testimony of the author's unique ability to voice the complexity and variety of desire, personal and collective histories, and the power of art to reflect and shape who we are.

Writers and thinkers from Lauren Berlant to Jeff Chang explore the power structures, the "neutrality" and the frailty of whitenessCofounded in 2017 by authors Claudia Rankine and Beth Loffreda, the Racial Imaginary Institute (TRII) is an interdisciplinary collective of artists, writers, knowledge-producers and activists. The institute's historic 2018 symposium "On Whiteness" convened a dazzling array of thinkers, artists and activists. The essays that resulted from the event, collected here, seek to examine whiteness as a source of often unquestioned or even unobserved power, and make visible variations of this dangerous ideology that has been intentionally positioned as neutral. In our current moment, whiteness is freshly articulated: as a source of unquestioned power, and as a "bloc," it feels itself endangered even as it retains its hold on power. Given that the concept of racial hierarchy is a strategy employed to support white dominance, whiteness is an important aspect of any conversation about race. The essays in On Whiteness make visible what has been intentionally presented as inevitable to help the move forward into more revelatory conversations about race. They question what can be made when we investigate, evade, beset and call out "bloc whiteness."Contributors include: Linda Alcoff Mart n, Lauren Berlant, Sadhana Bery, Daniel Borzutzky, Jane Caflisch, Jeff Chang, Aruna D'Souza, Lori Gruen, Saidiya Hartman, Nell Painter and Doreen St F lix.
