In these ten engrossing stories, Simon Nganga explores the meaning and consequences of choices that are usually considered national and society-wide from the eyes of individuals residing in local markets and villages. With unmatched precision and easy-to-read language, each story takes us through the characters'' effort to make choices as they desperately search for meaning in their ever-changing lives, with deeply unsettling results.

Examined here are the legal and practical reasons for the inefficiency of the legal framework of creditor protection in Nigeria. This is amply justified considering the critical role of credit in the promotion of economic growth and development and also bearing in mind the near calamitous consequences the 2009 financial crisis unleashed not only among Nigerian banks and financial institutions, and in the international financial system. The latter nearly led to socioeconomic catastrophe in Nigeria, as well as globally. It is hoped that book is found useful by government, policy makers, academics, corporate financial experts, investment bankers and other stakeholders to initiate and implement efficient policy actions to protect creditors in order to sustain the flow of credit, the engine of any economy.

The legal protection of intellectual property in Nigeria is the focus of this book. Its nine chapters dwell on copyright trademarks, patents, industrial designs and the legal protection of intellectual property in Nigeria. An overview is given of the law relating to the subject in order to facilitate a solid grounding in the law as a starting point from which various political, theoretical or other perspectives can be developed. There is substantial reliance on the relevant Nigerian statutes on copyright, trademarks, patents and industrial designs as contained in the Laws of the Federation 2004, and also on the reported cases decided in this area by Nigerian courts over the years. References are also given to the case and statutory laws in some other jurisdictions, especially where Nigerian legislative enactments need a reform. It is straightforward and comprehensive, intended as a basis both for undergraduates and for postgraduate courses, in addition to being useful to teachers, lawyers, judges, magistrates and accessible for general readership.

Though predominantly on oil and gas law, this is nonetheless a veritable Reference Book on the oil and gas industry in Nigeria. It places before anyone interested in the oil and gas industry basic and critical oil and gas issues not in common circulation in existing texts on the subject. The book is arranged in such a chronological order, like reference books and dictionaries tend to be,that a lay person in going through it would now know how oil is explored and found, how oil fields may be onshore and offshore, how oil blocs are bidded for, how oil is drilled, including associated gas deposits, among others. The transportation of oil and gas, storage of oil and gas, refining of oil and processing of gas, marketing of oil and gas,the impact of oil and gas exploration, production and revenues on the Nigerian environment, politics and economy and a myriad of other issues are comprehensively covered. The book should prove most useful to the lawyer, petroleum geologist, petroleum engineer, policy makers, investors, local and international development agencies and bodies, lecturers and students specialising in wide ranging subjects as economics, development studies, engineering, management, public administration, insurance, marketing, accounting and finance.

In Herding South, Peter Omoko spotlights the dispossessed and dystopian fate of minority groups in Nigeria, and the fractured social equilibrium that pervades the land, with its polarising and destructive effect on the people,s psyche. Writing essentially as a troubled witness, the poet navigates through the horrifying pains and trauma of a people, instigated by the ineptitude and narrow-mindedness of their leadership. Omoko,s intention in this collection , to speak home-truth to power in order to reclaim the people,s humanity , is well delineated in the sardonic and emotive metaphors used in the poetry and the rhetorical force of its lines.

This anthology is an outcome of literary writers, reaction to the Boko Haram insurgency in the north-eastern part of Nigeria. Lives therein have not only been extensively disrupted by the group,s violent tactics and the mind-numbing levels of physical destruction and thousands of deaths, but also in the dislocation of millions of people, with most of them seeking refuge in urban centres, especially Maiduguri, for safety. These refugees, classified as Internally Displaced Persons and in camps guarded by Nigerian soldiers, have received worldwide attention. Writers in the affected areas and elsewhere in Nigeria have responded in their poetry, short stories, and non-fiction some of which are collected here.

Abdul-Rasheed Na'Allah's Ilorin , is a unique collection of praise poems in English, Yoruba, and Hausa passionately celebrating and illuminating the city of Ilorin's wealth of culture, history, Islamic heritage, and individual achievements. It is a work that is solid in content, form, and techniques. There are many quotable lines, a measure of poetic strength. I cannot forget the line about the child hearing Koranic recitation from the mother's womb. Also, the moral authority combined with oratory in a wise one who can be heard by a dumb ruler! In addition to the rich Islamic heritage and the success of Ilorin individuals in the areas of justice and bravery, the poet praises the city's delicious trademarked foods such as ,Warankasi,, ,Tuworesi,, and ,Gbegiri., Among the best executed poems are ,Onikepe Aduke Opo, and ,Why the Sun Has Not Diminished in Light., Na'Allah has handled the praise poetry form dexterously, and that means ,at times even a critical appraisal of an item of praise., The reader comes out with a feeling of satisfaction for the poetic effulgence and knowing Ilorin better in its multiple areas of distinction and especially for its multicultural, Islamic, and tolerant character from an Ilorin-born and raised fine poet. - Tanure Ojaide, poet and scholar, Frank Porter Graham, Professor of Africana Studies, The University of North Carolina at Charlotte, USA.

This book contains the 9th Inaugural Lecture Series 2018 of the University of Lagos, Nigeria, delivered by Dafe Otobo on 4 July 2018. According to Professor Otobo, ,this is a small part in the on-going attempt at placing state policies, organisational, managerial and workers practices in Nigeria, if not Africa and elsewhere, into truer perspective., Aside from updating trade unionism and related developments in Nigeria, it is easily a thought-provoking and thorough-going critique of dominant received theories on labour and employment relations.

Two Mothers and Son explores the seeming needless, perpetual conflict between wife and mother-in-law in a typical African marriage; it is set in twenty-first century Nigeria which itself is a victim of conflicting and confusing interruptions of life. The son who is at the centre of it all, is caught between two loves, both possessive and obsessive, equally important but suffocating in a most debilitating manner. Added to this is the issue of religion which attempts to resolve the crisis but inadvertently contributes to the sad resolution of the conflict.

This collection of poetry both reflects and creates attitudes that we now regard as characteristic of our age , the crisis of nationhood and the burden of citizenship. Ebi Yeibo,s White Masks unambiguously exposes the dystopian nightmares of a nation and a people,s willing detachment from humanity. While some poets of his generation are content with dreaming of an ideal world, in White Masks, Yeibo, through the resources of memory, experiments with the idea of a better world - Professor Ogaga Okuyade, Niger Delta University, Wilberforce Island, Bayelsa State, Nigeria.

The first edition of State and Society in Nigeria, published in 1980, was and remains a dominant influence in teaching, research, policy and practice of state-society relations in Nigeria for more than a generation. The volume of essays has remained one of the most cited in the field , testimony to its enduring content and perspective as well as the beauty, accessibility and clarity of its language. This new edition revisits, extends and reconsiders aspects of the first edition in light of developments in the literature since 1980 and offers new insights and interpretations on issues of political economy, politics, and sociology such as the country,s Civil War (1967-1970) the political economy of oil, debt, and democratization and the complexities and ethnic identities and rivalries and religious accommodation and conflict, and of the multiple ways in which they intersect with one another.
