In this energetic adventure, feisty heroine Bella Balistica embarks on a quest to discover why Brazil excels at European-style football. Bella is crazy about the sport, but yens for a decent ball and instruction from the pros. By harnessing the power of her mystical pendant, Bella flies to Brazil with her pal, a Quetzal bird, where she befriends a homeless child named Ronaldo who reveals the unexpected key to victory on the field.

Designed more like a storybook than a textbook, these language primers pair accessible and engaging texts with fun, contemporary characters and vibrant illustrations. Each book in the series includes an alphabet practice section, information on language structure, a word list, quizzes to check progress, and an audio CD so that children can listen to the spoken language and practice correct pronunciation. Many key topics that will appeal to young learners are covered, including family, friends, school, toys, games, numbers, and colors. These comprehensive introductory courses on learning a foreign or second language are appropriate for use in both the home and classroom.

With beautifully expressive, witty illustrations and an appealing contemporary design, this book shows kids how much fun it is to be bilingual by introducing them to a teeny-tiny dog who is fluent in English and Turkish—and even dreams in both languages. Anyone who has ever known and loved a pet will instantly recognize Minutka's favorite activities: she shakes paw, snatches socks, runs in circles, and has fun around the house and garden with her family and friends. Readers don't need to know Turkish (or even be children) to be entranced by this lovable dog.
