Wiener Urtext Edition, Musikverlag GesmbH & Co. KG – förlag

Chopin seems at his most romantic in the Nocturnes; with the mazurk they belong to that group of works of the master, which is also accessible to the less experienced player. Both may explain the continued great popularity of these musically nuanced pieces. Like all Chopin publications edited by Jan Ekier, the soloist, educator and scientist within the Wiener Urtext Edition, the present edition also contains a rich commentary. In addition, comments on interpretation, regarding "authentic variant", a characteristic of Chopin, are also included. They are most abundant in the famous E flat major Nocturne (Op 9, No. 2), which therefore appears twice in our edition: in the second reprint the variations are reproduced in their entirety; In an impressive way, they point to the improvisational moment of Chopin's art. The edition contains the 18 Nocturnes of Opus. 9, 15, 27, 32, 37, 48, 55 and 62, as well as three from the estate: the very early Nocturne in E minor, Nocturne in C minor (presumably from Chopin's final year) and the "Lento con gran espressione" (Nocturne in C sharp minor), in which Chopin quotes from other works.Instrumentation:piano

For more than 200 years Mozart's piano sonatas have been part of every pianist's repertoire. Research done over the last few decades has made it possible, however, to establish more accurate dating and ordering of these works. Expert examination of the sources has shown that many printed editions from the 18th Century give more reliable detail than Mozart's autograph manuscripts; many of these works were prepared for publication by the composer himself and marked with precise indications for performance with regard to ornamentation, dynamics and articulation. All this, together with the rediscovery of sources that only became accessible again at the end of the 20th Century, gives reason enough to justify the publication of a new Wiener Urtext edition of Mozart's Piano Sonatas. Volume 1 contains the Sonatas K 279 to K 311, volume 2 the Sonatas K 330 to K 576. For Sonata K 284, variation XI in the final movement is given both in the version that appears in Mozart's autograph manuscript and in the version used in the first edition; in order to make the music easier to read, both versions are given in normal print size. Music that is clear and well laid out, with page turns in convenient places, makes this edition extremely user-friendly. Advice on performance by the renowned Mozart specialist Robert D. Levin provides fresh stimulus for what can otherwise too often become a rather tired interpretation.Instrumentation:piano

Johann Sebastian Bach’s Inventions and Sinfonias, better known as two- and three-part inventions, were an integral part of the teaching repertoire used in the composer’s piano lessons. And they still are! For piano pupils, there is no getting away from them, for their basic demands, that is ‘to learn to play in tune’ and &ls

When Christa Landon presented the first printed version of her edition of Joseph Haydn's piano sonatas, Haydn's sonata oeuvre was still overshadowed by the works of Mozart and Beethoven. Since then, Haydn's sonatas have progressed from the teaching rooms to the concert halls and Landon's edition has played a crucial role in that process. The Haydn anniversary in 2009 is a welcome occasion to thoroughly revise this 'legendary' edition for, over the course of more than forty years, new sources have come to light and questions of authenticity have been resolved, not least because the editorial principles for 18th-century music have changed considerably. The new edition comprises all works of the previous Wiener Urtext edition plus the sonata Hob. XVI:16 edited by Landon, along with the Sonata in F major which was rediscovered in Bozen a few years ago and attributed to Joseph Haydn. The new edition is published in four volumes, the content of each volume being compatible with the volumes of the previous edition. Volumes 1 and 2 contain the early sonatas. In the Notes on Interpretation, Robert D. Levin explains important aspects of Haydn's performance practice.Instrumentation:piano

It is not only Beethoven's most famous piano piece, but also one of the most famous musical works ever: the piano piece "Für Elise". The fact that experts are still puzzling over who might be hiding behind the ominous Elise has not detracted from the popularity of this "highlight". Every piano student would like to play "the Elise" once. The Wiener Urtext Edition is presenting a new edition for the Beethoven Year 2020, which answers some frequently asked questions from piano teachers and cleans up the musical text of some of the unjustified changes of the 20th century. The edition is supplemented by the pedagogically inspiring piano piece "Lustig und Traurig".Instrumentation:pianoWoO 59 and 54

"This sonata is easier to study than any of the earlier ones, and has therefore always been extremely popular." (Carl Czerny). Indeed, the Grande Sonate pathétique is the one with the most moderate demands in terms of playing technique among Beethoven's famous piano sonatas. But it is also popular for its pathetic expression, which captivates the listener from the very first chords. The new edition is published as a single edition following the revised new edition of all Beethoven's piano sonatas published in 2018/19. The edition is based on the first edition published in 1799, the second edition by the original publisher published soon afterwards and some early reprints. The latter are particularly important as supplementary sources, since neither the autograph nor copies of them have survived. The Critical Report (in German and English) informs about the importance of the sources and the editorial decisions. The trilingual preface provides historical background information. In addition, the performance-practical remarks by Beethoven's pupil Carl Czerny offer first-hand interpretative advice.Instrumentation:pianoop. 13
