Finn Aagaard was a special man. He was a highly respected Kenya professional hunter (1967–1977) and, later, a gun expert and writer. After the hunting ban in Kenya, he and his wife of thirty-two years, Berit, moved to the USA where Finn became a hunting guide in Texas. Soon thereafter he became a writer for the NRA, and his opinions on guns, calibers, and African hunting gained him worldwide recognition. The first part of Aagaard’s African Adventures contains the complete, original manuscript of Aagaard's Africa, which was published in an abridged form in 1991. Berit, who knew him better than anyone, has expanded on Finn’s hunting stories while offering new, and never-before-published material found in Finn’s meticulously kept journals dating back to 1956. Together with these and the adventures and tales recorded on CDs shortly before his death, she paints a unique picture of the man. We follow Finn through the bloody Mau Mau uprising; we learn what it took to become a PH; we share in his courtship and engagement on an elephant hunt; and we watch as he tracks after large-tusked elephant and big buffalo. Berit and Finn describe the animals Finn pursued in such a way that it makes the reader feel as if he could reach out through the pages and touch them. Berit interviewed clients who still, after thirty years, recall how their hearts raced when a charging buffalo or leopard came at them. This new and hugely expanded version is double in size and has more than five times the photos. No other African hunting book of the last few decades does such a masterful job of transferring the flavor of Africa, its game, big-game hunting, and people to the reader. Finn and Berit’s humorous outlook on life is evident in the writing. A tracker once told the Aagaards he intended to vote for the same corrupt cabinet minister of Kenya as always. Asked why he would vote for a known crook, he answered “Because if a new cabinet minister wins, he will have to start stealing from us all over again!” Foreword by John Wootters and tributes by Jeff Cooper, Craig Boddington, the late Gary Sitton, and Phil Shoemaker.

Sten Cedergren set out to become a cowboy at an early age—first stop, Paraguay. After further roaming, he landied in Keny and joined White Hunters Ltd., in addition to doing elephant control work. Today in his early eighties he is still hunting elephant in Zimbabwe!

Kevin Robertson has hunted with multiple clients for dangerous game, and over the years he has had a number of funny, interesting, and sad encounters. Now for the first time ever, Doctari has committed these stories to paper, and we guarantee these anecdotes will keep you entertained for hours. Pull up a chair and read along as Doctari relates his stories as though they are being told around a campfire in a safari camp.

Ian Nyschens (pronounced \nations\") shot as many elephants as Walter Bell did--well over 1,000--and under much more difficult circumstances. His book will rank or surpass the best elephant-ivory hunting books published in the twentieth century. Remarkably, his adventures took place much later than the likes of Bell, Sutherland, Neumann, and others. The stories of his hunts with his double rifle are sure to impress.

The story of the author and his wife''s two-month safari in East Africa in the 1950s. Ruark''s philosophies are intertwined in the hunting stories to make unforgettable reading.

Jonathon Kibler, a cougar-hunting specialist, has been hunting American lions since his early teens. Hunting lions with hounds on dry ground in the Southwest is arguably the hardest method of hunting these large cats. Kibler has mastered this skill and his hunting adventures have elevated him with the Lee brothers and Ben Lilly to a legendary status as a master lion hunter of the American Southwest. He's one of the last of a handful of purists who disdains any method other than dry-ground, fair-chase hunting. In his more than three decades of chasing lions through the toughest desert country in North America, he's guided clients to hundreds of trophy cats and captured lions for various government and private biological studies. In his quest, he's bred his own lion dogs and largely trains and shoes his own mules. Predictably, he's had close encounters in his decades astride mules in the desert wilderness, and though it has on occasion been a near thing, he's survived them all to write this, his first book. Kibler has followed a lion into a pitch-black cave with an ice-cold underground pool, dealt with a tom cat that eluded him for more than two years, and taken lions sitting on ledges mere inches wide and hundreds of yards up a steep cliff. Lion Tales contains some of the most interesting stories ever written on hunting mountain lions in the United States.

Peter Byrne has led the life most of us can only dream about. After WW II he returned to Ireland, but being restless, he decided to find a job that would take him to exotic lands. Using his family's connections, he was hired as a manager on a huge Indian tea plantation in the Himalayan foothills--a posh job that came with 17 servants and a mansion. Almost immediately on arrival he was plunged into Indian jungle hunting, his primary love, when the local villagers turned to him with a plea to eliminate a rogue boar. Read his exciting description of how he jumped from a tree and sliced the boar's skull in two while half the adult males of the village stayed in the trees to watch and cheer him on. Share his many adventures in India with tiger, elephant, and leopard, and see how a fortuitous championing of a member of the ruling elite of Nepal during a bar brawl prompted Peter to move to Nepal and become a professional hunter there. Move with him to Nepal where he was, for years, the only authorized professional hunter to operate in that country. In the unspoiled wilderness of the White Grass Plains area of Nepal, where there were virtually no roads and the natives did not even know the name of the capital of the country, he hunted tiger right up till the close of tiger hunting in 1969. Follow his exploits in the Terai (forested southlands of Nepal) where he encountered a man-eater . . . that was eventually killed by a train! This is the true-life story about a time that now is completely gone--a time when virtually no cars were seen in the remote areas of India and Nepal, a time when tiger, gaur, leopard, sambar, and many other jungle denizens were plentiful beyond description. Those days are truly gone. Foreword by Charlton Heston.

Russell Annabel is one of the most colorful characters ever to set foot in Alaska, this is his story.

The writings of Selous appear in one landmark volume, coplete with rare photographs and annotated by renowned African expert, Dr. James Casada. Selous describes early days in Botswana and Zambezia.

Bill York, who recently passed away, once said, “Most guiding for big game is pretty unadventuresome work.” However, when there is excitement, it comes in spades, and Bill York had his share of unusual encounters. From his early days in Kenya when he and a companion trekked alone through the desert of the NFD and had to fend off marauding lions that ate his caravan ponies to encountering a Mau Mau terrorist who took potshots at his victims with a stolen elephant gun, York gives an entertaining account of his life. York was there when the RAF bombed the rain forest to rid Kenya of the dreaded Mau Mau, and he explains how the bombing went awry—very few Mau Mau were killed but plenty of wounded and dangerously short-tempered buffalo were left to wreck havoc in the countryside. He gives an insider’s view to the funny and outrageous behavior of some his famous acquaintances--Eric Rundgren, Ken Dawson, Frank Broadbent, and Iodine Ionides. PH Eric Rundgren, for example, was so interested in getting himself good elephant tusks that he would scout out the best tuskers for himself and guide his clients to less desirable trophies! There are stories about how York found a cache of rhino and elephant ivory that J. A. Hunter had stashed before his death, and how John Boyes managed to exasperate British authorities with his dastardly deeds. There is an entire chapter on hunting giant forest hogs because Bill York spent a lot of time in their habitat, and there are encounters and adventures with crop-raiding elephant and ghost buffalo that could be seen but not killed. Then there is the story of a client who was so huge that York was not sure he could get the man a single trophy. As with York’s previous book, the pages are loaded with interesting anecdotes, fascinating tales, and well-written prose that give insight into East Africa and its more famous characters.

This is the sequel to Home from the Hill, a bestseller if there ever was one! Fred Webb once commented on his marriage by saying, "Irene and I had the typical teenage marriage that wasn't supposed to last six months. I guess the secret is that out of the past forty years I have been away about thirty-five of them." And away from home he has been, first as a radio operator in the remote North, then as a lumberjack, and later yet as a sailor. Eventually he became a full-time guide traveling all over the Arctic, guiding for the great game of the North—caribou, moose, polar bear, muskox, and grizzly. In these pages you will find the same irresistible attraction you did in Fred’s earlier writings, for he truly is a masterful storyteller. Let Fred royally entertain you with his wild hunting tales and his adventurous vagabond existence; we guarantee this to be one book you’ll have a hard time putting down. Fred, a master storyteller whose stories have been praised time and time again in the press, rates as one of the best sporting writers alive today.
