The dangers of the new heresies, refuted in this book, are that they originate from people who are within the Church-or who were so-and that these heresies were used to wrongly express the Orthodox faith. Some of those, who wrote and spread these heresies, have lived abroad and have become influenced by the ideological deviations that are there. Others, though they have not been abroad, have read books published by Western writers, have become influenced by them, have adopted their ideas, and have desired to spread what they have adopted. And yet there are others who love any new opinion, the foreign, anomalous, and they see self-glory in spreading it-for they now know what others do not. His Holiness Pope Shenouda III addresses, in this book, some of the most dangerous new heresies, which constitute theological concepts of the uttermost gravity. Out of His Holiness' responsibility to preserve the teaching of the Church pure of any blemish, he explains the erroneous ideas, so that our generation may hand it down to the coming generations sound as it has been handed down to us.

The subject of salvation has preoccupied the minds of the believers throughout the ages. "What must I do to be saved?" Throughout the centuries, many erroneous teachings have surfaced and then faded into oblivion when the Orthodox faith was defended by the fathers of the Church. In this book, His Holiness Pope Shenouda III, one of our time's greatest fathers of the Church, treats the subject of salvation with such meticulousness and thoroughness as to dispel all doubts and misunderstandings regarding the Orthodox understanding of salvation. His Holiness explains the requirements and conditions of salvation in his customary clear, accessible, and yet utterly profound way, demonstrating unparalleled familiarity with the subject. His Holiness also addresses many of the Holy Scriptures that have been misunderstood and misused, and that have been used to mislead many. He explains their true meaning through the proper and sound use of the Holy Scriptures. This book is certainly one of the rare studies that has extensively treated the subject of salvation according to the Orthodox upright understanding.

This historical fiction novel describes the life of the Coptic Christians a century after the Arab conquest of Egypt. It is being published posthumously, from the Egyptian author Iris Habib El-Masry (1910-1994), known for her "Story of the Coptic Church," the first comprehensive book on Coptic history that follows a modern historical approach. This novel follows Guirguis, the protagonist of this novel, who was commanded by his brother to be a "torchbearer" in the community he lived in, thus fulfilling Christ's commandment to be a "light unto the world." The setting of this novel, as well as the historical circumstances, are based on real facts. Guirguis lived in eighth-century Egypt, during the reign of the ruthless Muslim Caliph, Marwan II of Umayyad (reigned from 744-750). Although very little is known and said about eighth-century Egypt, especially about the Copts who lived during that dark time, El-Masry brilliantly portrays all of the monumental scenes and brings to life names that would have long been forgotten in history.
