This work takes the form of a conversation, an interview. An obsessive questioning back and forth builds up Blanchot's narrative, with its sense--shared with Kafka's famous doorkeeper parable--that behind each question lies the spooky possibility of a further, more imposing, more insoluble question. Thematically, powerlessness, inertia, insufficient speech, weariness, falling, faltering--everything tied to a negative or nonexistent value in ordinary discourse--is given value here by its being articulated, moved into writing and thought. What's insignificant or worthless gathers weight through its troubling persistence, its failure to disappear. The endless conversation of Blanchot's writing turns fiction toward an experience of listening--a far cry from the storytelling most fiction (still) takes itself to be.

This compilation of teachings presents the oral wisdom of Kalu Rinpoche, revered worldwide as a teacher of Vajrayana Buddhism. Here are his views on the mastery on the three yanas, the vows of Refuge and Bodhisattva, and the true nature of the mind. Also included are techniques for stepping beyond the Four Veils of Obscuration and Emotional Subjectivity onto the Five Paths that culminate in the liberation of mahamudra, plus a thorough introduction to the visualization techniques of yidam practice, a detailed commentary on the Chenrezig sadhana, and an extensive explanation of the Bardos of Death and Dying. Leavened with humor and fresh insight, this first English translation is an excellent resource for the novice and experienced student alike.

Possibly the most famous and widely used resource in therapeutic bodywork, this beautifully written, detailed and reader-friendly picture of how and why the body responds to touch is both scientifically reliable and inspiring. Furthering the presentation of recent research in biochemistry, cell biology and energy medicine in the Second Edition, this new and greatly expanded edition includes advances in neurophysiology and physics, reconfiguring knowledge of mind and body, from microgenesis to quantum consciousness. A rare book, required reading for national massage therapy certification, that also serves the general reader.

At the heart of Michael Boughn’s Measure’s Measures are fundamental questions about poetry’s relation to modes of knowing the world beyond what’s given. Lovingly addressed to the work of poets associated with the New American Poetry and their predecessors, these essays probe the development of what Boughn calls the somatic poetics of transformative gnosis. Boughn’s method combines a wide range of scholarship with his affectionate personal knowledge of many of the poets, and a radically decentered view of the stakes poetry brings to considerations of our post-modern moment. Rethinking the history of 20th century US American poetry, these essays challenge the academic containment of poetry to literary studies, opening it into a thriving wilderness of thinking being.

STATE/SHAFT SHAFT/STATE is a book of image + words, made in a calendar year in the mid-00s when Sam Truitt was a full-time business writer for a New York-based publisher of commercial real estate research, statistics and analysis. The business was just west of Fifth Avenue on the north side of Thirty-Seventh, and our writing group was located initially on the top floor. I composed the "state" strips on the roof, which had an excellent view of most of the Empire State Building. In the spring our group moved to the fourth floor, removing easy rooftop access. I continued to compose intermittently through the day, yet now standing on the fire escape at the back of the building. That area also served as an airshaft. state/shaft shaft/state’ s text is a direct transcription of words spoken into an Olympus W10 recorder, that allows you to take photos while voice recording an avi file. While their order here is somewhat arbitrary, the way the image + words are arranged in this series is not wholly. This book includes a QR link to a video of the original recordings.
