The Time School series follows four friends as they navigate their way through the first year at secondary school, whilst returning to the past at different time-periods. During these time-travelling adventures, they each discover something about their family history, as well as how events that were going on at that time affected their families. This is an opportunity for the children to understand how the past affects your present life and for Jess, Nadia, Ash and Tomma, how these events have affected them personally.

When you're running late for school, then you find your usual train has turned into an old steam train, you know it's not going to be a normal day. What you don't expect is that it will be a 'take you back in time' sort of day. Jess, Nadia, Tomma and Ash find themselves spending the day at Hickley School one hundred years in the past. They are told stories of bombings, hunger, and fighting, from fellow pupil, Martha, the only person willing to speak to them. After their time travel adventure, they work out the significance of the year, 1918, and plot to go back. They want to experience a significant moment in history and Jess wants to see Martha again. Not knowing why or how, Jess feels a connection to Martha, and an obligation towards her that she can't explain. Going back in time has its risks. Once you go back, there's no way of knowing if you'll be able to make it home.

Nadia Kaminski knows very little about her Polish grandfather so how is she going to write a speech about him to read at his funeral? She's never really considered her Polish roots, so a trip back in time to time (to the end of the Second World War) and an encounter with Marcel, a Polish refugee, might be just what Nadia needs. Along with fellow time-travellers, Jess, Tomma and Ash, this is the group's second experience of Hickley School in the past, and a chance to discover the struggles of those who found themselves stranded in a country that wasn't their own. It's time to board the train for another exciting journey back in time.

"Have you ever had something lucky? A pair of trainers that helped you run faster, a pen that made you have the best ideas, a hat that every time you wore it, you won at chess? Well I have my lucky underpants. At least I did until they went missing. Right when I needed them most."

When Harry and James form a secret agency for the summer, their first task is to investigate the disappearance of Harry's lucky underpants and to prevent nosey neighbour, Stacey, from interfering in their business. But when a mysterious couple move into an old house on their street, the children are intrigued. Harry and James must join forces with Stacey in order to uncover what is going on at number 35. And with Harry's attention diverted from the hunt for his lucky underpants, will he ever be able to find them?

This book is a wonderful romp through the school summer holidays following a group of children who are determined to solve a mystery happening on their very street. It brilliantly captures the curiosity and innocence of those long summer days that we all remember from our own childhoods. It transports the adult reader back to a time when we were giddy with freedom and stuffed to the gills on Enid Blyton's Famous Five and Secret Seven, fuelling our quest for fun and adventure. With easy-to-digest short chapters and a fast moving narrative, this book is perfect for primary school children, especially those who may have found reading a challenge. The book bounces along with a Scooby-Doo enthusiasm that will delight boys and girls alike.
