The book is based on the premise that it is difficult, if not impossible, to manage a modern business or public organisation without at least some knowledge of information technology. Managers need to have an understanding of strategic development, including the current technology situation, the current and desired business situation, the need for changes, the application portfolio, and organisational and human resources issues in the area of information technology. The book covers important management aspects of information technology. In addition, it provides insights into management research, both on how it is conducted and what results are obtained.

This book is written for people working in and on projects. It covers the gamut for the simple, everyday project to the enormously complex research and development project involving many people and diverse interested parties. The book focuses on: project preparations and planning; project organisation and execution; project management in general. It is aimed at the Bachelor and Master level students, but should be of great use to consultants and hands-on officials in the public and private sectors as well.

The Ormen Lange field is situated in the Norwegian Ocean, 120 kilometres west of the Møre coast. Discovered in 1997, it represents Norway's second largest gas field. The gas is brought from the reservoir 3000 metres below sea level to the land treatment plant at Aukra, from where it is transported through the world's longest sub-sea pipeline to England, where it for years will cover a fifth of the total British gas need. The development represented huge technological and organisational challenges on various levels, and the complexity can easily be compared to a moon landing. Innovation and creative art of engineering made the development possible. During the development modern technology crossed the world of the past and maritime history. In 2003 a group of marine archaeologists discovered several shipwrecks, of which a historical boat lying on the seafloor very close to the planned pipleine route from the Ormen Lange field to the land industrial plant. Could a shipwreck stop the largest industrial development in Norway, or would Norwegian marine archaeologists prove to have the creativity and skills to provide innovative technology to solve the problem? This book tells the story of the Ormen Lange development, and how skills, creativity and excellent co-operation on several levels made this not only a unique industrial project but also a unique marine archaeological project.

What is causing climate change? What can be done about it? The answers are closely connected to the ways that we obtain and use energy. Energy is a key to modern life. But energy is something we mostly take for granted because it is largely out of sight. Typically the only time we notice it is when supplies are interrupted. So this book sets out to illustrate what energy is and where it comes from. It examines the future for oil, natural gas and coal as well as nuclear energy and renewable energy supplies. But mainly this is a book about energy in a world increasingly affected by climate change. The authors take a practical approach to what can be done about climate change. This book is extensively illustrated. Without tables or equations, it is written for a wide audience interested in energy and the environment but not necessarily having much knowledge of either subject.
