Smarter and safer on ice Learn how to skate a millimetre less of ice, gain another millimetre growth, get another day before ice-out, ride ice-waves or jump the floes. See the earth global heat balance reflected under your skates and sense the direct heat-link with the atmosphere, sun and outer space. Ice physics for recreational ice-users is a textbook on ice for skating devotees and other recreational ice-users interested in the physics of thin natural ice covers. Relevant thermal and mechanical properties of floating ice-sheets are penetrated with mathematical exactitude, illustrated, exemplified and linked to experience. The academic rigor is temporarily interrupted by pertinent illustrations by the artist Johan Ekström from Uppsala. It is the advanced specialization of The Great Guidebook on Nordic skating (Ajne, M., 2012, in Swedish, Stora boken om långfärdsskridsko), but can be read as a stand-alone textbook on ice.
