Wicked Son – förlag

Fleeing post-World War II Germany, an aristocratic young man and his Nazi officer father are spirited away to the Brazilian jungle to help create a new, occult-obsessed, German Reich…but love, ambition, and vengeance interfere. In the waning days of World War II, fourteen-year-old Axel, his family, and their servants are cold and hungry in Pappendorf Castle. Baron Dietrich von Pappendorf, Axel’s father, is away, having spent much of the war traveling the world in search of an ancient, pre-Babel language that his occult-obsessed, Nazi masters believed would solidify Aryans as the master race. But when the baron returns to the family castle, it’s not in triumph. Axel and his family must flee Germany and embrace a life of luxurious exile in the Brazilian jungle. The von Pappendorfs take up residence in a gilded cage carved from the hallucinogenic wilds of Amazonia and originally built for Hitler. Protected from Nazi hunters, the baron prepares for the Fourth Reich while Axel is guided by a shaman into the wisdom of the jungle. It’s there the young man discovers ancient truths linking an Israelite king to a river known as Solimeos. Axel is also passionately in love with his father’s mistress: beautiful, Polish-Jewish Luba. He becomes torn between his love for his father, his desire for Luba, and the growing realization that he and his family can never atone for the past. Utterly original, highly entertaining, and sometimes shocking, Rhoda Lerman’s Solimeos—a provocative parable about the sins of the father visited upon the son—is a powerful and elegantly written story of family, fanaticism, and fate.

A murder plot seeded in the wild mountains of Ethiopia bears its poison fruit years later in modern Jerusalem as a serial killer targets a prominent Beta Israel family. Confronting racial politics, police corruption, and human trafficking, Israeli intelligence agent Maya Rimon tries to stop the killer before his double-edged blade finishes off the entire family.A refugee’s discovery of a buried diary in a UN camp holds the key to solving a series of vicious murders in Jerusalem. Israeli intelligence agent Maya Rimon teams up with Ethiopian activist lawyer, Dani Solomon, to track down the serial killer, who has targeted the prominent Ethiopian Jewish family of Moshe Aklilu, a member of the Israeli Knesset. The murderer leaves cryptic clues on the victims’ bodies: slash wounds made by a double-edged ceremonial knife, images of hyenas, and vengeful spirit animals associated with Jews back in Ethiopia. Because Aklilu is a member of the Knesset, Maya Rimon, an agent of the Service, Israel’s elite Intelligence agency, takes on the case. So does her chief rival, Sarit Levine, Chief Inspector of the Jerusalem Police. Already biased against black Jews, Sarit suspects that the murder is a gang hit, payback for a failed drug deal. Maya suspects something far more sinister. Spiced with Ethiopian folklore and superstition, including Evil Eye curses, spirit possession, witch’s brews and spells, The Hyena Murders explores the timely theme of racism: among the various tribes of Israeli Jews, among politicians and bureaucrats, and within Maya’s own family. In the course of the novel, as she grows closer to Dani, these social tensions take on an increasingly personal meaning for Maya.

Sheldon Adelson's posthumous memoir is a fitting tribute to an outsized personality: an inspirational guide to success in business, politics, philanthropyand life. When Sheldon Adelson died in 2021, he left behind a sprawling business empire worth hundreds of billions of dollars. His career as a philanthropist, political activist, and supporter of Israel were no less legendary. Now, in this memoir based on recorded interviews, the late business visionary tells in his own voice the remarkable story of his rags-to-riches rise from penniless newsie to resort hotel and entertainment titan. Born in 1933 to immigrant parents in a rough-and-tumble Boston neighborhood where he literally had to fight his way to school, Sheldon was imbued from the beginning with a strong Jewish identity, self-reliance, pragmatism, and deep loyalty to family and friends. Using money scraped together selling papers, he launched a series of small businesses that taught him the fundamentals of entrepreneurship even before he knew the word. At every step, he innovated, approaching each new venture with an inveterate outsider's perspective that enabled him to see opportunities where others could only see obstacles. Though frequently described as a casino mogul, Sheldon actually backed into the business through a successful career as a tour packager, conventioneer, and hotel builder, along the way developing a unique resort concept that combined business travel with luxury accommodation, shopping, entertainment, and gambling. In the process, he transformed Las Vegas and went on to reshape the skylines of Macau and Singapore. Few business memoirs convey as this one does the sheer exuberance of using one's creative gifts to build, expand, and innovate. It also shows a warm, human side of the hard-driving businessman that few have seen. Above all, it is a touching love story that celebrates the unique partnership he formed with his wife, Dr. Miriam Adelson, who helped him expand his philanthropic activities to include medical research and support for Israel.
