Handbook of Ceramics Grinding and Polishing meets the growing need in manufacturing industries for a clear understanding of the latest techniques in ceramics processing. The properties of ceramics make them very useful as components-they withstand high temperatures and are durable, resistant to wear, chemical degradation, and light. In recent years the use of ceramics has been expanding, with applications in most industry sectors that use machined parts, especially where corrosion-resistance is required, and in high temperature environments. However, they are challenging to produce and their use in high-precision manufacturing often requires adjustments to be made at the micro and nano scale. This book helps ceramics component producers to do cost-effective, highly precise machining. It provides a thorough grounding in the fundamentals of ceramics-their properties and characteristics-and of the abrasive processes used to manipulate their final shape as well as the test procedures vital for success. The second edition has been updated throughout, with the latest developments in technologies, techniques, and materials. The practical nature of the book has also been enhanced; numerous case studies illustrating how manufacturing (machining) problems have been handled are complemented by a highly practical new chapter on the selection and efficient use of machine tools.

In this series Rajiv Kohli and Kash Mittal have brought together the work of experts from different industry sectors and backgrounds to provide a state-of-the-art survey and best-practice guidance for scientists and engineers engaged in surface cleaning or handling the consequences of surface contamination. The expert contributions in this volume cover important fundamental aspects of surface contamination that are key to understanding the behavior of specific types of contaminants. This understanding is essential to develop preventative and mitigation methods for contamination control. The coverage complements the treatment of surface contamination in vol.1, Fundamental and Applied Aspects. This volume covers: Sources and Generation of Particles; Manipulation Techniques for Particles on Surfaces; Particle Deposition and Rebound; Particle Behavior in Liquid Systems; Biological and Metallic Contamination; and includes a comprehensive list of current standards and resources.

Utilization of Plastic Waste: Processing, Technology, and Applications compiles the latest advances in the utilization of plastic waste, explaining the processing methods and technology behind a range of applications. Chapters cover the types of solid waste, the sources of plastic waste, mechanical and chemical recycling possibilities, key principles, strategies and policies for plastic waste management, treatment methods, the steps involved in the recycling and re-utilization of plastic waste, specific uses for waste plastic, and future directions for these innovative technologies. This is an essential source of information for waste management and recycling professionals, engineers, manufacturers, scientists and R&D professionals in the plastics industry. In addition, government officials, regulators, NGOs, researchers, and graduate and postgraduate students across plastics engineering, waste management, sustainability, packaging, polymer science, chemical engineering, processing technology, and environmental science will find this to be a comprehensive resource.

This book covers in detail programs and technologies for converting traditionally landfilled solid wastes into energy through waste-to-energy projects

This book explains the highly complex code compliance and permitting process for advanced technology facilities that use all types of hazardous materials. It is a complete rewrite of the best selling Code Compliance for Advanced Technology Facilities by William R. Acorn in 1993. The regulatory process varies significantly not only within the countries, but worldwide as well. The need to have a reasonably consistent interpretation of the essence of the provisions of the codes and standards regardless of location is considered a universal issue. This book helps owners, designers, contractors, and jurisdictional authorities achieve that consistency in interpreting complex code issues. The book will also address some of the key distinctions between building and fire codes used in countries outside the U.S. to assist readers in making wise decisions in the development of their off-shore projects. Readers will be able to develop a successful code compliance strategy and ensure facilities are safely designed and constructed. While the first edition focused on semiconductor manufacturing facilities, this book gives much wider attention to a variety of hazardous occupancies. Significant changes in codes for the advanced building market as well as implications of terrorism make this second edition a critical update. The implications of bioterrorism upon building design and construction criteria is also discussed.
