Pulitzer Prize winner William J. Broad takes readers on an adventure to the planet's largest and most mysterious environment - the depths of the sea. In the company of the scientists and explorers who explore the ocean's depths, Broad describes how modern technology, often originally developed for Cold War espionage, is now uncovering information about ancient life forms, historic events like the sinking of the TITANIC, and current environmental dangers that could have devastating, long-term effects. THE UNIVERSE BELOW examines how we are illuminating the sea's darkest recesses to reveal a world teeming with life, lost artworks and treasures.
