Liberty is a sweeping historical graphic novel by Jordan Mechner that dramatizes the true story of the covert French operation to aid the American Revolution, blending espionage, diplomacy, and revolutionary fervor.Set in 1776, Liberty follows the daring exploits of Pierre-Augustin Caron de Beaumarchais, a flamboyant French playwright turned secret agent. While an outnumbered American rebel army struggles to defend New York against British forces, Beaumarchais orchestrates a clandestine mission from Europe to funnel weapons and support to the colonists. His efforts—fraught with political intrigue, betrayal, and high-stakes diplomacy—reveal a hidden chapter of history where art, ambition, and revolution collide. This story is especially poignant and relevant as America celebrates its 250th year of independence, due in no small part to the events depicted in this book.
