Frederick Waddy – illustratör

Complete and unabridged, with 35 full-page plates by Cornelis van der Meulen, Adam Frans van der Meulen and Claude Lorrain. Monmouth's rebellion of 1685, the Bloody Assizes and the transportation of the defeated to the West Indian plantations, seen from a dissenting household in Somerset. Besant wrote historical fiction with a social reformer's eye, and the slavery at the end of it is not softened. This edition is bound with a gallery of 35 plates after painters including Gillis Neyts, Antoine Le Nain and Abraham Bosse, and carries 23 illustrations restored and coloured for it.
