“Ridiculous in all the best ways.” —Kirkus Reviews In the fifth installment of National Book Award winner M.T. Anderson’s Pals in Peril series, the intrepid heroes are home from their Delaware crime-stopping excitement, only to discover that Lily’s mom has become possessed by a menacing zombie who wants to take over the world! (Or, at least, the world of stage and screen.) When Lily’s mother returns from a little vacation to Todburg—the most haunted town in America—she seems different. She can no longer speak French. She makes better pancakes. And also she no longer recognizes Lily, her own daughter. What if she was taken over…and is now something dangerous and undead? So our intrepid heroes—Lily Gefelty, Katie Mulligan, and Jasper Dash, Boy Technonaut—blast off on another rollicking adventure, this time to the world of ghosts, ghouls, bats, tarantulas, web-footed vampires, sad-sack magicians, and ninja prep-school girls with love and fashion on their side. The night is dark and the enemies are fierce. You won’t know whether to laugh or scream!

In the first intallment of National Book Award winner M.T. Anderson’s Pals in Peril series, a madman has unleashed an army of stilt-walking, laser-beaming, thoroughly angry whales upon the world! Luckily, Jasper Dash and his friends Katie Mulligan and Lily Gefelty are around to save the day.Sure, Lily Gefelty is just an average twelve-year-old girl. But her dad—a normal-enough-seeming guy—just so happens to work for an evil genius who plans to unleash an army of extremely cranky, stilt-walking, laser-beam-eyed whales upon the world. Lucky for Lily, her two best friends are anything but average. Both of them are famous for their adventures. Jasper Dash, Boy Technonaut, invents gadgets; Katie Mulligan spends her spare time fighting off zombies and were-goats. Surely they’ll know what to do. And if they don’t? Then it will be up to Lily—average, everyday Lily—to come up with a plan.

"Great Scott! [A] swell sequel…Never has the Hardy Boys—Nancy Drew axis been knocked further or more delightfully askew.” —Booklist (starred review) In the zany and humorous second book of National Book Award winner M.T. Anderson’s Pals in Peril series, Jasper Dash and his friends are on the case, solving a spine-tingling mystery. In need of a vacation after their last laser-beam-filled adventure, Lily, Jasper, and Katie have flown off for a restful stay at a distant mountain lodge, which just so happens to be hosting a gathering for characters from other middle grade series novels. Two—the marvelous Manley Boys—look suspiciously like a pair of crime-solving bothers named Frank and Joe Hardy. Two others are a pair of boy-crazy twin sisters who attend a high school in some sweet valley somewhere. And then there are the Hooper Quints, who, along with a wealthy heiress’s priceless diamond necklace, have suddenly gone missing. Does it surprise you that the supposedly “on vacation” Katie, Jasper, and Lily are the only ones around who have the chops to solve this challenging mystery? National Book Award winner M. T. Anderson has done it again with this second volume of his riotous and wonderfully weird series.
