Discovering American Indians is an authoritative book about life in North America for 7 to 11-year-olds. Before the coming of the white man, North America was home to hundreds of different peoples, speaking different languages and living in vastly different ways. In this expertly-written account, vetted by an expert from the Smithsonian Museum of Native American History, Richard Platt takes kids on an enthralling journey through the diverse native cultures, from the desert-dwellers of the Southwest in their mud-brick houses, through the rifle-toting, bareback-riding buffalo hunters of the Great Plains, to the buckskin-clad canoe-paddlers of the Pacific Northwest. You will also accompany young Indian warrior Fearless Wolf as he embarks on a long and dangerous fourney to discover the truth about his past. Will he find out where he really came from and reclaim his tribe's lands from the hand of the white invader? Red Kite Books' Discovering series has two special features setting it apart from the competition: a story told in verse running along the bottom of each spread and a fantastic free gift tucked inside the back cover. In Discovering American Indians, the free gift is an Indian feather head-dress.
