An American uncle takes his niece to England and tells her the Arthurian legend where each of the events is supposed to have happened - Camelot, Glastonbury, Tintagel, the Scilly Isles. William Henry Frost wrote several such books, half travel and half retelling. The device works better than it should: the tale is Malory's and the landscape is real. Fifty-four plates after painters including Frederic Leighton and Edward Burne-Jones turn the legend's own terrain into a painted sequence of courtship, music and royal ceremony.
