Jag var 35 år och mitt i karriären när mina symtom kom smygande efter två omgångar influensa. Det började med smärta i nacken och yrselattacker, och till slut var jag så utmattad att jag inte längre klarade av vardagen. Via banbrytande amerikansk forskning kunde jag till slut diagnostiseras och behandlas rätt; det skulle visa sig att de allvarliga symtomen berodde på samsynsproblem i form av en liten dold skelning. Efter behandling med prismaglasögon är jag helt återställd och sedan upptäckten har jag gjort ett omfattande arbete som mynnat ut i boken Osynlig Diagnos. Boken baseras på över 100 forskningsartiklar och innehåller nya rön bakom många av vår tids vanligaste hälsoproblem såsom smärta, yrsel, ångest och utmattningsbesvär - besvär som genererar ett stort lidande och stora kostnader. Syftet med boken är att sprida kunskapen kring detta allvarliga men för de allra flesta okända ögonproblem och därigenom hjälpa andra människor som lider.

The term photonics had not yet been coined. With predation and carnivory as catalysts, the first known eye appeared in a trilobite during the Cambrian explosion approximately 543 million years ago. This period was a crucible of evolution and teemed with anatomic creativity although the journey to formed vision actually began billions of years before that. The Cambrian period, however, spawned nearly all morphologic forms of the eye, followed by descent over hundreds of millions of years providing an unimaginable variety of eyes with at least ten different designs. Some eyes display spectacular creativity with mirror, scanning or telephoto optics. Some of these ocular designs are merely curiosities, while others offer the finest visual potential packed into a small space, limited only by the laws of diffraction or physiological optics. For example, some spiders developed tiny, well-formed eyes with scanning optics and three visual pigments; scallops have 40-100 eyes circling their mantle, each of which has mirror optics and contains two separate retinae per eye; deep ocean fish have eyes shaped like tubes containing yellow lenses to break camouflage; and some birds have vision five times better than ours; but this is only part of the story. Each animal alive today has an eye that fits is niche perfectly demonstrating the intimacy of the evolutionary process as no other organ could. The evolution of the eye is one of the best examples of Darwinian principles.Although few eyes fossilize in any significant manner, many details of this evolution are known and understood. From initial photoreception 3.75 billion years ago to early spatial recognition in the first cupped eyespot in Euglena to fully formed camera style eyes the size of beach balls in ichthyosaurs, animals have processed light to compete and survive in their respective niches.It is evolution's greatest gift and its greatest triumph. This is the story of the evolution of the eye.

Our hope is to enlighten and encourage those affected by aniridia and WAGR Syndrome by providing patient support and medical information. There is information to inform parents, teachers, doctors, employers, and the public about aniridia and what it is like to live with it. Several renowned doctors contribute medical chapters. Personal experiences from individuals with aniridia and parents with children with aniridia provide encouragement. Contact information for Aniridia Foundation International (AFI) is included. When a child is born without a complete iris, it is usually a symptom of a broader condition. Known as aniridia, this condition can also be a sign other parts of the eye are underdeveloped as well. Moreover, recent research shows that the gene involved can also affect the kidneys, pancreas and forebrain, so aniridia can coincide with a range of symptoms known as WAGR syndrome. Until recently, however, there was very little information available on aniridia and WAGR Syndrome. Even now, not all of the available information is current or correct, so that when a child is diagnosed with aniridia, the parents often find or are given information that is confusing and even frightening. We created this book to help those families see that they are not alone, and there are a lot of answers and a great deal of hope. It contains information about aniridia and WAGR Syndrome for parents, other family members, friends, teachers, doctors, and employers. We have been very fortunate to have several renowned doctors contribute current and comprehensive medical information that will help to provide concrete answers to basic questions and demystify these conditions.
