The campaign, led by Boer War hero Louis Botha, to reduce the German colony (now Namibia) was a South African-only operation which saw the birth of the South African Air Force and was successfully concluded in July 1915.
This is the Official South African History of The Great War, describing a campaign in which South African forces only were involved, hence it does not feature in the British Official History series. It was the first occasion of the employment on active service of the then recently formed Union Defence Forces, which had come into being under the South Africa Defence Act of 1912. It saw the birth of the South African Air Force and the first use on the continent of Africa of aircraft in a bombing role, which consisted of heaving shells over the side of the cockpit and hoping they would land nose down and thus explode. The South African commander was Gen. Louis Botha, the distinguished Boer War leader who, having first to deal with a pro-German Boer rebellion which verged on civil war, fought a brilliant campaign and, in July 1915, German South West Africa (today's Namibia) surrendered.

Official account of the Italian campaign from 1915, with special reference to Britain's support for her embattled Italian ally in the year between November 1917 and November 1918. Five British and four French divisions with supporting arms were engaged.
Although the third member of the Central Powers triple alliance before the Great War, Italy wisely held aloof from the conflict which began in August 1914. But pressure from the western Allies - particularly France - caused her to abandon neutrality and join the war on the Allied side. This volume recounts what followed as it affected the British troops involved in supporting our tottering ally after the disastrous defeat at Caporetto in 1917. The preliminary chapters provide a sketch of the events that brought Italy into the war and the operations that took place before the arrival of the British divisions in November 1917. In all, five British and four French divisions with supporting arms and services (including air) came to the aid of the ltalians in 1917/1918, enabling her to recover and drive her German and Austrian foes back into the Alps by the armistice in November.

This volume provides methods on different aspects and applications on plants, algae, photosynthetic bacteria, synthetic construct design, and multiplex cloning. Chapters cover multiple aspects of synthetic metabolic, photosynthetic systems, metabolic and signaling pathways, advanced engineering of metabolic networks, isolation of organelles and co-culture of microorganisms, and methods for the on command manipulation of the relative stability of proteins. Written in the format of the highly successful Methods in Molecular Biology series, each chapter includes an introduction to the topic, lists necessary materials and reagents, includes tips on troubleshooting and known pitfalls, and step-by-step, readily reproducible protocols.
Authoritative and cutting-edge, Plant Synthetic Biology: Methods and Protocols aims to be a useful resource for both researchers starting to explore novel experimental avenues as well as for experts willing to expand their portfolio of tools and strategies.
