It covers the 48 regional members of the Asian Development Bank and analyzes regional as well as global economic linkages. The 2018 report’s special chapter “Toward Optimal Provision of Regional Public Goods in Asia and the Pacific” examines how collective action among countries can help find solutions to growing transnational development challenges. The special chapter also discusses how to best provide regional public goods that transcend the so-called “collective action problem” which occurs when individual interests are too weak on their own to drive cooperation on common issues.

The theme chapter of this year's report explores the potential of technology to boost productivity in aging economies. It discusses how countries can promote and adopt innovations to turn demographic challenges into opportunities. The report covers the 49 member countries of ADB in Asia and the Pacific.

This publication examines the initial impact on trade, investment, finance, and peopleÕs mobility as the coronavirus disease pandemic struck Asia and the Pacific.The outbreak in 2020 disrupted both supply and demand sides of an interconnected world economy. Asia and the Pacific was not immune as lockdowns and travel and trade restrictions affected nearly all aspects of cross-border economic activity. The Asian Economic Integration Report 2021 looks at how regional economies individually or collectively respond to the crisis by, for example, leveraging rapid technological progress and digitalization as well as increasing services trade to reconnect and recover. The theme chapter focuses on digital platforms and how they can accelerate digital transformation across the region.

This report explores how Asia and the Pacific can capitalize on growing opportunities in digital services through structural reforms and international cooperation.Another year into the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, the report describes an Asia and Pacific region that has more experience in tackling pandemic hardships, better data showing positive integration trends, and greater confidence in regional cooperation to address shared concerns. The publication gives an overview of changes in trade and global value chains, cross-border investment, financial integration, and the movement of people since the pandemic began.

To bolster economic and financial analyses through national account statistics, this publication presents a model developed by ADB to provide a more consistent measure of non-recoverable VAT on products.Highlighting application results in Armenia, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan, the publication explains how the model can be used in balancing and reconciling supply and use tables as well as to assess VAT gaps. It shows that the model is relatively simple to apply and its consistency with the supply and use system makes it an attractive tool for policymakers.
