Historian James. S. Olson has prepared a comprehensive, annotated bibliography of the history of cancer. Multiple Sclerosis continues to be one of the most baffling and destructive diseases of our time, disabling a multitude of people around the globe. Compiler George W. Lowis has gathered four decades of published research findings into this unique and useful volume. He provides summaries of 213 projects grouped according to whether they could possibly be implicated, either positively or negatively, as determinants of MS prevalence or incidence. Summaries of 192 projects look at 11 different demographic and sociocultural correlates of MS such as diet, ethnicity, urban-rural residence, and more. An additional 21 projects focus on the methodology or case ascertainment used. The majority of sample projects were abstracted from medical literature published in journals and books since 1960. The Vital and Health Statistics Series, or what documents and medical librarians call The Rainbow Series, includes four series published by the U.S. National Health Survey between 1958 and 1963, and eighteen series published by the National Center for Health Statistics since 1963. Sixteen of these series are still active. In this volume, Jim Walsh and A. James Bothmer list, annotate, and index all of the reports published in the Rainbow Series, a total of 853 reports. Each entry contains standard bibliographical information and cataloging, publisher, and index/abstract access information.The body of the book arranges the reports first by series and then by report number within each series. Each series begins with a series cover sheet, which provides general information about the series. The work concludes with author, title, and subject indexes. The subject index uses the Library of Congress Subject Headings and the National Library of Medicine Subject Headings. The annotated entries cover works on prostitutes published in English in both major and obscure bio-medical journals between 1900 and 1990, and include literature concerning the relationship between prostitutes and AIDS. Cocaine has been a socio-medical problem for centuries. In the United States, the first cocaine epidemic occurred between the 1880s and the 1920s.
