Dans le cadre du renouveau que connaissent les études sur Chypre à l'âge du Fer, ce volume apporte une réfl exion sur le thème des continuités, ruptures et changements qui accompagnent l’histoire des royaumes chypriotes du Ier millénaire avant notre ère. On y examine les évolutions politiques, en insistant sur le passage d’un mode de gouvernement à un autre ; les transitions culturelles, avec la création de la koinè pan-chypriote d’époque géométrique, la naissance des styles régionaux ou encore l’impact de l’hellénisme ; les modifi cations ou la continuité des structures économiques, avec les dynamiques d’exploitation du territoire et leurs conséquences sur l’évolution des limites territoriales des royaumes chypriotes. Sans nier ou diminuer la radicalité et l’importance de certains phénomènes ou événements – de l’hellénisation de l’île à sa conquête par les Lagides, en passant par l’enracinement de la présence phénicienne à l’époque archaïque et la grandissante infl uence athénienne pendant l’époque classique –, on en réévalue l’impact à la lumière d’autres facteurs essentiels, parfois moins visibles et plus diffi ciles à saisir en raison du biais de la documentation disponible. La perspective « chyprocentrique » paraît ainsi celle qui permet le mieux de refonder, sur de nouvelles bases méthodologiques et théoriques, l’analyse de l’histoire et des caractéristiques constitutives des royaumes chypriotes. Archéologues, épigraphistes, numismates, historiens, céramologues, spécialistes de tout horizon scientifi que apportent ainsi leur regard, soit par l'étude de cas ciblés, dont plusieurs découvertes récentes, soit en dégageant des caractéristiques communes à l'ensemble des royaumes. Within the context of a revival in studies on Iron Age Cyprus, this volume considers the theme of continuity, ruptures and changes that go hand in hand with the history of the Cypriot kingdoms of the first millennium BC. We examine political developments, emphasizing the transition from one mode of government to another; cultural evolutions, with the creation of pan-Cypriot koine from the geometric period, the birth of regional styles or the impact of Hellenism; the changes or continuity of the economic structures, with the dynamics of exploitation of the territory and their consequences on the evolution of the territorial frontiers of the Cypriot kingdoms. Without denying or diminishing the radicalness and importance of certain phenomena or events – from the Hellenization of the island to its conquest by the Lagids, to the rooting of the Phoenician presence in the archaic period and the growing Athenian influence during the classical era – the impact of these events is re-evaluated in the light of other essential factors, sometimes less visible and more difficult to grasp because of the bias of the available documentation. The “chyprocentric” perspective thus appears to be the best one through which to reconstruct, using new methodological and theoretical foundations, the analysis of the history and constitutive characteristics of the Cypriot kingdoms. Archaeologists, epigraphists, numismatists, historians, ceramologists, specialists from all scientific horizons thus shed light on this subject, either through the study of targeted cases, including several recent discoveries, or through highlighting characteristics common to all the kingdoms.

Ce volume complète et achève la publication des fouilles de Jean Deshayes (1961-1975) à Dikili Tash. Il fait suite aux deux volumes déjà disponibles. Le premier, paru en 1992, décrivait le site et les fouilles, la stratigraphie et la chronologie, la construction, l'outillage, les moyens de subsistance et les éléments de parure. Le second, paru en 2004, traitait la céramique néolithique (techniques, formes et décors), y compris les récipients zoomorphes et anthropomorphes. Ce troisième volume contient d'abord l'étude des formes et des décors de la céramique du Bronze Ancien et du Bronze Récent. L'âge du Bronze, mal connu en Macédoine orientale, se voit enrichi d'une nouvelle étude précise et fondée sur une stratigraphie bien documentée. Également nouvelle est la publication exhaustive des figurines et des maquettes du Néolithique Moyen au Bronze Récent: il s'agit d'un catalogue complet et raisonné, suivi d'une étude systématique organisée selon les catégories d'objets; l'ensemble est le plus important publié à ce jour. Ces contributions augmentent significativement nos connaissances sur les périodes concernées et proposent des interprétations argumentées. La conclusion générale, qui clôt le volume et la publication des fouilles de J. Deshayes, retrace l'évolution des méthodes de travail et des modes de pensée au fil des différents programmes mis en œuvre à Dikili Tash: elle souligne la réflexion de plus en plus consciente qui, ici comme ailleurs en Macédoine, commande toute la recherche archéologique. This volume completes and rounds off the publication of the excavations of Jean Deshayes (1961-1975) at Dikili Tash. It follows on from the two volumes already available. The first volume, published in 1992, described the site and the excavations, the stratigraphy and the chronology, the construction, the tools, the means of subsistence and the trappings of finery. The second volume, published in 2004, dealt with Neolithic pottery (techniques, forms and decorations), including zoomorphic and anthropomorphic containers. This third volume contains, firstly, the study of the forms and decorations of the ceramics of the Early Bronze and the Late Bronze Ages. The Bronze Age, little known in eastern Macedonia, is thus enriched by a new detailed study based on well-documented stratigraphy. Also new is the comprehensive publication of figurines and models from the Middle Neolithic to the Late Bronze Age: this is a complete and well-reserached catalogue, followed by a systematic study organized according to the catagories of objects; this assemblage is the largest published to date. These contributions significantly add to our knowledge of the periods concerned and propose well-argued interpretations. The general conclusion, which completes the volume and the publication of the excavations of J. Deshayes, traces the evolution of working methods and thought processes involved in the different programmes at Dikili Tash, underlining the increasingly conscious intellectual interrogations that here, as well as elsewhere in Macedonia, pervade all archaeological research.

I risultati degli scavi condotti durante 120 anni da archeologi russi e ucraini nei siti delle antiche colonie greche del Mar Nero settentrionale, come anche sporadiche scoperte fortuite fatte negli stessi luoghi, costituiscono un immenso materiale per ricerche su vari aspetti sia delle poleis di una periferia coloniale non-mediterranea, che era in contatto con nomadi scitici, sia del mondo greco in generale. In tali ricerche si inserisce il presente libro. Esso si occupa principalmente dell'interpretazione filologico-storica di testi epigrafici e letterari, tenendo conto – nella misura in cui l'autore, che non è un archeologo, poteva farlo – delle ricerche degli archeologi. Esso offre contributi allo studio del rapporto tra polis e città, a quello delle innovazioni nella religione dei Greci del lontano Nord-Est, a quello della religiosità orfica e dei suoi rapporti con le origini della filosofia, a quello della 'giustizia privata' (diritto di sylân), a quello dell'organizzazione e dello status sociale del commercio marittimo. ????The results of excavations carried out over the last 120 years by Russian and Ukrainian archaeologists at the sites of ancient Greek colonies in the northern Black Sea, as well as sporadic chance discoveries made in these places, form a large body of material for research into various aspects of both the poleis of a non-Mediterranean colonial periphery, which was in contact with Scythian nomads, and the Greek world in general. This book is part of such research, dealing mainly with the philological-historical interpretation of epigraphic and literary texts, taking into account the research of archaeologists – as far as possible, since the author is not an archaeologist. The work contributes to studies on the relationship between polis and city; innovations in the religion of the Greeks of the far north-east; Orphic religiosity and its relationship to the origins of philosophy; 'private justice' (right of sylân); and the organization and social status of maritime trade.
