Capital and Class – serie

The 1990s promise to be a period of rapid political change, as old political boundaries dissolve and new political forces emerge. These changes throw into question our understanding of capitalism and socialism, of the character of the nation state, and of the relationship between the economy and the state. However, these changes are only the culmination of developments which have been unfolding over the past two decades. This book includes a comprehensive introductory survey, which sets the contributions collected here within the context of the wider debate.

Inside the Household traces the shift in feminist interest in the household from an earlier focus on the uneven division of domestic labour to a current emphasis on women's caring activities within the household. The articles in this collection range from classics of the 1970s analysing domestic labour and its effects on men's and women's employment patterns, through later studies of how women's increased labour force participation impacted on the domestic division of labour, to specifically commissioned articles that introduce some of the latest thinking on the nature of women's caring labour.

This is a collection of essays which were published between 1973 and 1985 in the CSE journals "Bulletin of the Conference of Socialist Economists" and "Capital and Class", publications which investigate, from a variety of viewpoints, fundamental categories of Marxian economics.
