Volume 1 of the Handbook of Neuropsychology contains 17 chapters divided into two sections. "Section 1: Introduction" presents the views of various authors discussing practical and theoretical issues of general interest and two chapters cover clinical evaluation in a novel and comprehensive fashion. A feature of Neuropsychology in recent years, the spectacular comeback of single case studies, is covered in a chapter on statistical approaches comparing statistical procedures appropriate for groups to that of single cases. Through two different points of view the important topic of Hemispheric specialization is examined and several chapters deal with the application of theoretical models to neuropsychology in its daily and research aspects. "Section 2: Attention" examines selective attention with chapters on visuo/spatial attentional phenomena and the temporal aspects of attention. The phenomenon of failure to orient, neglect and neglect related phenomena are dealt with in a separate chapter as is the anatomy and the neurophysiological properties of the circuits whose lesion produces neglect deficits in primates.

The sixth volume of the Handbook is devoted to topics related to aging and dementia. The volume is introduced by two chapters dealing with age-related cognitive and neurobiological alterations in animals, including a detailed review of data obtained with transgenic and knockout technology. The next chapter reviews the cognitive changes associated with normal aging. The gamut of symptoms that occur in Alzheimer's disease (AD) are then described and analyzed, they include effects on attention, language, memory, non-verbal functions with emphasis on spatial abilities, olfaction and the motor system. The discussion of dementia syndromes is presented in two sections. The first concerns AD, which is discussed from the points of view of epidemiology, neuropathology and neurochemistry and concludes with a review of current and future treatments. The other section deals with non-AD dementias including Fronto-temporal and Lewy body dementias and specific conditions such as Parkinson's and Huntington's disease, as well as HIV infection. The volume includes a review of brain imaging and cerebral metabolism findings in aging and dementia. The final chapters review the relations between culture and dementia and the special syndrome of severe dementia.

Volume 8 consists of Parts I and II. Part I considers theoretical perspectives in bridging developmental neuroscience with child psychology, with the role of neuroscience furthering our understanding of the child?s mental development, and a separate chapter outlines the importance of plasticity in this growth. Chapters also cover methodological issues arising from epidemiological perspectives and from psychometric concepts and issues. Methods for measuring biological brain function and structure and their particular application to child neuropsychological disorders are covered next, including ERP, PET, SPECT, MRI and fMRI technologies. Included is a chapter devoted to childhood seizure disorders. Separate chapters follow on neuropsychological assessment in infancy, in the preschool child, and in school-aged children. Following this are presentations on the development of motor control, including handedness, and somatosensory perception. Part II begins with chapters on visual development and on development in visually impaired children, followed by chapters on cognitive development in deaf children and on central auditory functions and their evaluation. This is followed by chapters on early language development and its neural correlates, developmental language disorders, and on acquired aphasia in childhood. Two chapters on dyslexia and another on dyscalculia follow. Next is a chapter on disorders of memory with a special focus on temporal lobe disease and autism, one on attention disorders, and one on executive functions in normal and abnormal development. Following this are chapters on the development of emotional regulation and on mechanisms and influences on addiction in children and adolescents. Final chapters include one on eating disorders, and another focussing on autism spectrum disorders.
