This volume is an old-fashioned study in which seasoned and talented historians, lawyers, politicals scientists, and linguists seek to make sense of the ever-shifting patterns of change in the transition from the Soviet Union and its satellites to Russia and the former Soviet Republics, and to the recently indepents countries of Eastern Europe. The authors trace some of the early responses.
